Gore buys carbon credits from himself?

Consider this:

- People driving SUVs are paying carbon credits, because they believe that their emissions are harmful to our environment, right?

THEY KNOW THEY ARE POLLUTING, RIGHT?

Isn't the solution to just NOT POLLUTE? And to stop whining about their causes unless they are willing to make an INTELLIGENT SACRIFICE?

Because honestly, even if the organization they are paying for the carbon credits IS helping to clean up the environment, DOESN'T THE CONTINUATION OF POLLUTION PUT THOSE CLEANUP EFFORTS INTO A STASIS?

The picture I have in my mind is of PIGPEN from the PEANUTS COMIC STRIP DRIVING A PIGPEN SUV DOWN THE STREET, WHILE A MAID WITH A BROOM AND DUSTPAN FOLLOWS BEHIND, TRYING TO KEEP UP WITH THE MESS.

(I always thought that cleaning up after yourself was what you were supposed to do in a civilized society. I didn't know that somehow by cleaning up after my own mess, I was "making a difference"...)

You end up at a stalemate WHEN THOSE CLEANUP FUNDS COULD HAVE BEEN USED SOMEWHERE ELSE - POSSIBLY ON A MORE FUEL-EFFICIENT CAR!?!?!

It boggles my mind the lengths people will go to in order to ASSUAGE THEIR GUILT rather than REALLY MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

In the best-case scenario, all that's happening here is that a few very guilty people have chosen to hire an eco-maid to clean up after themselves.The sad thing here is that WE STILL DON'T HAVE EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE OF WHAT EXACTLY CAUSES GLOBAL WARMING. ALL WE CAN SEE IS THE RESULT, NOT THE CAUSE!

And why does it matter if he invests in Generation as well?
Gee, as if we had not known it already.
But himself? Not himself. The company. It's not his money.
If they invest money in green projects more power to them. The government will not pay for it. Wealthy investors will. So what's the problem?

Strange that all these people suddenly hate capitalism when they also bash Gore for being a "socialist" because he wants government action to fight AGW.

Since when does one rule out the other?
What does Generation do with the money? Invest it in green projects.
What does Native Energy does with the money? Invest it in green projects.

The difference is that in the first case Gore may or may not receive a profit which then he can invest in more projects (really who wants his own company to grow?)
while in the later case it's Native Energy itself which gets the profit and invest it in more projects.
