Mid Michigan Draft Al Gore petition meetings Tues & Thurs 5:30-6:15pm, Oct 2 to 18
Mid-Michigan Gore Supporters busy collection petition signatures for January 15 Primary
Please help us on our petition drive to place Al Gore on the ballot for the Michigan January 15 Presidential Primary. We are working hard to collect signatures and also to raise needed funds. Instead of our next Meetup (monthly meeting) that usually would be on the first Tuesday in October, we will have brief bi weekly meetings on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-6:15pm at the Gone Wired Cafe at 2021 E. Michigan Avenue, on the east side of Lansing.
These bi-weekly meetings will last until Thursday, October 18. The new state Primary Election law requires that we turn in more than 12,396 valid signatures by Tuesday, October 23. On Tuesday, October 23, we will have a regular Meetup beginning at 7:00pm at Gone Wired Café to evaluate the success of our petition drive and plan our next steps in our efforts to elect Al Gore as our next president.
We have over 100 volunteer petitioners collecting signatures across Michigan. Please join our petitioning efforts as we need every volunteer we can recruit. Similar petition drives are taking place in Massachusetts, New York, Illinois, California and other states.
We were really pleased that Al Gore received 36% of 400 Dems likely to vote in Michigan’s Dem primary or caucus, and Clinton got 32%, Obama 16%, Edwards 8% and the others less. The poll was released by the Detroit News and WXYZ on August 14th and done by EPIC/MRA. More and more we are expecting Gore to announce that he will run for President in October after the Nobel Peace Prize is announced on October 12.
We sponsored a Book Discussion of Gore's book, An Assault on Reason, on June 7, at Okemos Schuler's Books. The discussion panel included Beryl Schwartz, City Pulse Publisher, Tracy Dobson, MSU Fisheries & Wildlife Prof, and Doug Kelley, veteran of several presidential campaigns and 2004 Dem National Convention delegate from Ann Arbor. More than 40 people attended this informative event. More than 120 attended a book panel discussion in Royal Oak on August 24, despite tornado like weather as the event began. Similar panels have occurred in Ann Arbor and Traverse City. We are making arrangements for more book discussions.
We also need your help in passing out Draft Gore information and collecting petition signatures at upcoming parades, weekend festivals, Wharton Center performances, and other events. Also, we need data entry volunteers to transfer the petition signers' data onto Excel spreadsheets. Please contact Bob Alexander, 517-351-0965 or alexjuliea@aol.com to volunteer.

Please join our Draft Gore Meetup at the Lazeez Restaurant, 2820 E. Grand River Ave, on the eastside of Lansing. You can join some of us to eat at 6:00, as the Lazeez offers tasty Mediterranean and Indian dinners and excellent fruit drinks, coffee and teas (American food too). We pay for our own food and drink.
Our Meetup begins at 7:00. We have lots to talk about including Gore’s presentation to Congress and his moving up in many polls. Your participation is important. We are doing a lot of local outreach, and look forward to discussing how we are going to strengthen support of Gore in this area. Please register that you are coming on this website, and also bring some friends along. See you there.
