Hillary is the Only Candidate Who Could -- and Would Win the Presidency!
I wish everyone would see the forest for the trees and wake up ....
When the Republicans elect McCain, and the real race begins Obama’s house of cards, and historic words, and speechwriters, will not be able to carry him to a win.
Sure he’s a Rock Star, and a talented actor, but the game of looking good and sounding good, will not be enough to face McCain, who will not be holding back his criticisms the way that Democrat do.
He owns the Black block now – where anyone who strays from that pack is called an Uncle Tom. If or When McCain chooses Rice as VP, the block advantage will be split. Sure he has executive Experience at Harvard Review, where things are so tough, few want that job. Yes he can deliver a great speech and motivate a crowd, but the tactic of scoffing off the fact that he didn’t even hire good enough speech writers to come up with unique material will backfire. One of the reasons, at 47 he has little experience, is that he has spent so much time trying to make it to the top. There is no question Obamarama is a phenomenon – crowd mentality in full swing. The question is who is Obama really, and what will he do for the country?
I’m not impressed the ways he scoffs off criticism and has his posse attack Hillary at every turn. I’m not impressed that he scoffs off plagiarizing full speeches, and then blames Hillary for calling him out. He promises not to take money from PACS and Special Interests and that turns out not to be true. So his supporters point to Hillary and say, see what a bitch she is she’s picking on the greatest man we have running. This is not the stuff that defines a great President and these are not the honest and tough tactics that will win in a race against McCain.
Hillary is a brilliant and capable woman and successful politician, with way more solid accomplishments, than Obama, who won the NY Senate on her own two feet. Bill got caught with his pants down, yet he is still respected because of his absolutely amazing ability to leave office with a surplus when everyone said that could never be done. Hillary, stood by her man and was surly always one of his greatest assets, a Yale Graduate and Attorney. For 8 years, Hillary worked proving her ability in the Senate. Obama is a Jr. Senator, who went immediately out on the campaign trail, and as his supporters work hard to crush Hillary, he smiles and talks of Hope and Peace.
You may think I am a killjoy, to say bad things about a man who sounds like Martin Luther King – because he borrows Mr. Kings words, but he is nothing like Martin Luther King, who had guts, and was a trailblazer and a truly great man in history. Hillary could win this election. Her husband Bill, and the Clintons worked hard to help Black people and before Obama Hillary would likely have had the Black support. Now what we have is a Half-Black Rock Star, destroying Hillary’s chances at a Democratic win of the Presidency and a big question Mark?
As I watch the most brilliant and capable woman to ever make it almost to the presidency be passive aggressively torn apart by a phenomenon of sweet words all I can say is it appears to be a big mistake and I hardly see his campaign holding up to McCain.

Be part of the Draft Gore '08 campaign!

Even if Hillary could win - and the polls show -
that far from being certain -- I don't want her to be president.
It's either Obama or McCain. Hillary could take her borrowed lines from Edwards and her husband and
"xerox them" in her Senate office for years to come, fine with me. But she should not be anywhere near the White House.
I’m not impressed that he scoffs off plagiarizing full speeches
I'm not impresssed with this bold faced lie. Obama did not plagiarize "full speeches" or
anything for that matter. You can't plagiarize lines if the author give those lines to you.
But sure Clinton did plagiarize Edwards in her closing remark yesterday. Hypocrite.
Arty are you OK?
You are starting to sound somewhat paranoid and bitter. Just because your favorite is not only starting to lose it but is looking like an ungraceful sore loser who is willing to tear her party apart to have her way. Not very flattering.
Unless Hillary is willing to sacrifice whatever goodwill she has built up in the country at large she needs to call a halt to her name calling and smear tactics and formulate a way to gracefully accept the will of the voters.
I have never questioned Hillary's intelligence but if she does not figure this out that will change.
You are not going to change any of the regulars here at algore.org with this kind of hissy fit. So lets just watch the results unfold and try to keep a modicum of self respect and respect for the judgment of the voters.
MM
Arty
You sound like you're in manic phase--could that be true?
Wow! You sound like Obama's Passive Agressive attacks on Hillary
This one I could not let slide. I assure you gallwinds I am not manic... but thanks for asking?
Seems like a rather low blow though... Do you think supporting Hillary, and not supporting Obama defines me as me crazy?
Your comment is a case in point, of the passive aggressive bullying to follow the crowd, that I am referring too. That type of underhanded criticism is is a big problem in this race for sure. While all the while Obama supporters cry foul against Hillary, again and again.
Sexist Attacks on Hillary Increase Her Support Among Women Voters

Hillary/Patrick '08
A winning Team
I am actually concerned
Symptoms of mania include rapid speech, racing thoughts, talkativeness or rapid speech, decreased need for sleep, euphoria, grandiosity, and increased interest in goal-directed activities. The person often denies there is anything wrong with them because initially they may enjoy the "severely elevated mood." The experience of mania can be quite unpleasant and sometimes disturbing, if not frightening, for the person involved.
You've Got To Be Kidding Me...
This is a critical time in this contest and time is running out...I'll leave it at that! Otherwise I may say something offensive, and don't think that would be fair. I will repeat what I said about passive aggressive tactics and pressuring people to conform to your will.
No need to call the authorities, and suggest I be carted to a loony bin, I'm not crazy, I'm just a Clinton supporter ;-) Time is ticking in this race, and I'm expressing an unpopular position to block voters. If you don't think this suggestion that I am manic -- and all the supporting reasons -- is outragious, all I can say is underhanded bullying is alive and well at the love Fest.
Wow! I'm shocked! Really... ;-(
If Hillary Turns this Around the best ticket is Hillary/Patrick
MM , the reality is despite the Hype and delegate counts of Obama 1319 to Hillary's 1250
Hardly a windfall
Yes... He has momentum. Yes I feel that the hype hurt the Democrats chances to elect a candidate that will win the Presidency.
http://www.cnn.com/POLITICS/
So I'm neither paranoid, nor are my concerns unfounded. When an entire block is represented in these numbers-- which will most likely be broken up by McCain -- it seems you are grasping at straws to suggest I am paranoid. That I claim that Blacks that choose not to support Obama are called Uncle Tom's or people are Bullied to get behind the man of hope vs. experience -- that's a fact. Need I say more in that regard?
When I refer to passive agressiveness and half-truths that's also a fact. Obama is talented, that is for sure. Is he a leader who can run the USA -- God Only Knows. That mystery and facing loss #3 based on the power of a phenomenon to inspire a crowd, is not enough experience to make me jump on board with your 58%.(?) in Wisconsin, and national poll numbers running Clinton 44% Obama 43% and 13% unsure. Sorry, I don't agree with you on this one, I really am, but to suggest I am paranoid?
At this point ,if Hillary turns this around, I feel The Best Democratic Team to Win would be:
HILLARY CLINTON/DEVAL PATRICK '08
A team of true leaders!
CLINTON/PATRICK
Experience and Leadership for the USA!
PS -- Thanks for asking. I'm OK ;-) but the Democrat whom I feel is the only electable Democrat running is in trouble, so I'm working to help shift, what I feel is a big crowd on the wrong path. That question sounds much like an Obama comment... Go figure.
Don't agree about Hillary and Condy Rice
Arty,
I think the African-American base gave up on Condy Rice a long, long time ago. She is damaged goods after working in the Darth Vader administration. If McCain picks her, which would be a very risky pick, it won't do a thing to split the base supporting Obama.
You should be more concerned that if Hillary is nominated it will split the Democratic base of white male voters! I am a veteran, and I am supporting Obama because he will work to get our soldiers out of that hell-hole as soon as possible. I blame the Clinton's for getting us into this mess in the first place. How so? Because Bill left a stain on the office of the Presidency, and Hillary stood by him while he was flat-out lying to the American people. She was complicit in the coverup. No big deal right? It was their own personal business, right? Well, poor Al Gore lost the election in 2000 because many people (wrongly) associated him with the scandal-ridden Clinton administration, and good ole' "W" promised to restore honor to the Oval Office. Even though Gore was obviously smarter, the people wanted change because the Clinton's left a bad taste in their mouths. If there had been no scandal, there would have been no Bush. You know the rest of the story after 2000....
I believe that Hillary's "experience" is a weakness that can be exploited by the Republicans. She is the only First Lady to be served a subpoena by Congress. That's not something to write home about. She failed miserably in the major task that she undertook as First Lady - you know, the platform she is running on now - Health Care Reform? Why did she fail? Not because she wasn't smart enough. Not because she didn't have all the facts. It was because she left out all the details. The devil is in the details, and she left out the most important one - in Washington, a leader must cultivate a working majority in order to get things done! She couldn't unite Congress to get behind her health care plan because she was too divisive! She tried to ram her plan down people's throats. She polarized Congress. That's her "experience". Sure, she can fight the Republicans, but she will fight them to a standstill, and nothing will get done. No change. Is that the "experience" we want?
And how about her "experience" as Commander-In-Chief? Can she send our troops into harm's way? Well, we all saw how she voted for sending them to Iraq. Our soldiers would be in the same place under her command as they are now under Bush. How do you think the morale in our volunteer forces would fare if Hillary were elected? The conservative soldiers HATE her guts. A great number of our volunteer troops are African-American, and they aren't too pleased with the comments that "Hill-Billy" made in South Carolina. The "First Black President" has now become the "First Black-Faced President." Who is going to answer the call when she says, "Uncle Sam Wants You"? We are going to have a tough time rebuilding our armed forces after Bush has squeezed the life out of them - Hillary's presence would make that task much more difficult.
Can she beat McCain? Not on experience. Not on character. Not on leadership.
That old Clinton stain is still on the White House, and Bush just gave us a bigger mess to clean up. Who can restore the honor and pride that the the American people are still clamoring for? With Obama there is Hope, albeit untested. With McCain there is a hero's respect, but little hope. With Hillary there is the stain.
Untested is unsure... IMHO
You sound very smart QSMettler, and I respect your opinion.
What's Obama's plan to bring our troops home?
As for the Clinton bashing... What was said to me is everybody's got an opinion.
McCain started calling Obama the winner early on... why? Because he wants to promote the one he feels is easier for him to run against and win. No one is perfect. Hillary is not Bill -- she can stand on her own merits and does. I don't mind that Bill turned a deficit economy into a surplus when "everybody" said it couldn't be done.
CLINTON/PATRICK '08
Sure of one thing
Thanks for your reply, Arty. I guess the Clinton bashing is rooted in the deep disappointment of being lied to by President Clinton, and the subsequent election of Bush. I also give Clinton credit for leaving us a surplus economy in a peaceful time. In most cases that economic success alone would have led to the election of his well-qualified V.P. over a bumbling opponent. But it wasn't just the economy, after all. Clinton compromised the trust of the people in the highest office in the land. So did Richard Nixon. Completely different circumstances, but the same result - the people turned away from the injurious Party. I think that Gore came close to winning because he was the better candidate. I think he lost because of Clinton's ruined legacy.
Based upon your screen name and the fact that we are on this site, I take it that you are a Gore supporter in one way or another. How else can you explain Gore's loss? His robotic personality? The deep sighs as he wasted his breath debating an idiot? Was it Bush's simple cowboy charm? Maybe so, if people base their vote on personality and charisma. If that's the case, then Barack's got this thing in the bag.
Or do people base their votes on trust? I agree that Hillary is not Bill, but the Republicans will certainly make quick work to erase that distinction in the minds of the voters. As Mitt Romney stated, it is scary to think of Bill Clinton in the White House with nothing to do. Do the African-American voters trust the Clinton's after South Carolina? The polls show otherwise.
Or do people base their votes on experience? If so, McCain would defeat either of our candidates.
Maybe people vote on the faith that their candidate will be the best leader based upon a combination of these factors. Faith that their candidate is trustworthy and has the ability to persuade others to follow in their wake. Faith that their candidate will make the best decisions based on sound judgement and yes, experience. As you said, no one is perfect. All of the candidates have their weaknesses. Being untested as the President of the United States seems to be a weakness that they all share. Being married to a President who shamelessly violated his office and tainted an otherwise great legacy is one that Hillary Clinton bears alone, warranted or not.
Faith and Hope for Hillary to Win is reasonable too...
With all due respect QSMettler, I trust Hillary more to work for peace, than a candidate who has consistently presented half truths and inunedos, IMH0. After 9-11, Obama was not a Senator, and all the Democrats were told that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction. To attack her performance again and again on that issue, is easy for a newcomer, but still leaves me wondering… would he have been the lone hold-out in the Senate? I doubt it… So I find that sort of tactic underhanded and not inspiring to me. Without the support of an African American Block, and endorsements from Oprah, the ultimate old-timer Edward Kennedy and money from Move-On, I don't believe things would be as they are today. Maybe you agree with those endorsements, but I don't. Gore refrained from an endorsement and I really respect him for that.
A Gore, I supporter and wanted him to run again for President, but he chose not to, which I respect. I had hoped he’d run as an independent, to really change a system that depends on contributions from special interests. Obama stated he did/would not accept money from any special interests or PAKS, but turns out that is a half truth. Plus he contacts the Special Interests to get them to contact their supporters, to send him money one by one. Any way you cut it, I’d rather support someone who may have made some mistakes but is more real and straight forward and has made more solid contributions to date.
As far as I can see African Americans are now all voting in a block, so trust is not really a factor. I do know that before Obama, many African Americans seemed to like the Clintons.
Gerald Ford came into office when Nixon stepped down and was later defeated by Carter, who was trashed, but history has helped recover his reputation as a great President.
McCain may well defeat either candidate based on his likeability and experience, but I feel Hillary would win that race. Biill Clinton – a potential First Husband -- had been out of office for 4 years when Kerry faced Bush. However, I feel the team of Hillary/Patrick would win in a race against McCain, and that McCain will win in a race against Obama for President. That belief, and my faith and hope in Hillary, is the reason why I am spending so much energy to try and help communicate that Obama is not likely to win despite the excitement. I’m not one to just follow a crowd, or buy into something without looking at what’s really going on.
I voted for Gore and wish the personality he now shows had come across more effectively during his campaign. 4 Years later I worked for the Kerry campaign and he lost. To blame that loss on Clinton’s performance, seems like a stretch. I have voted for Democrats in every election, but would have supported and voted for Gore to run as an independent in this election. I get the impression from Gore supporters that's it's Obama or they will not support Hillary and most Hillary bashing seems unfounded.
The team of CLINTON/PATRICK to win in light of all that I have seen -- could and would -- win the Presidency for Democrats, and I would work to help get that team be elected. It's a certain bet that people here are tired of hearing from me. Despite "pressure" to conform to the will of the majority (Obama has a 2% delegate lead), I'm addressing your considerate response, and like many today, I don't agree Obama is our best bet to win in 08.
Nice to meet you ;-)
Best of Luck
Arty,
Thanks for your reply. I had to leave the site last night or would have responded sooner. Looks like we have faith in different candidates, and I am not one to bash another's faith. The debate was great last night, and I think both candidates did very well. If they can carry that enthusiasm on to the general election, then maybe either one could beat McCain. I have to admit that Hillary came across a little more genuine last night, but I still have Clinton-fatigue. I never said that the Clinton scandal affected John Kerry - just Gore. Kerry lost because he appeared to be aloof and disingenuous. The people simply didn't like him. Also, Carter may have been bashed as a weak president, but he didn't disgrace the office. He was honorable - that's what I'm looking for. Best of luck to you, and it was a pleasure being democratic with you!
Thanks QSMettler,
I enjoyed exchanging opinions with you too ;-)
Best wishes
Arty
I remember when you first were here blogging for Gore. Remember how we started to feel invigorated, like we finally found someone we could trust? Well this place was like hanging out at the morgue when we finally accepted that Gore wasn't going to run. We were suddenly orphaned. It took us sometime to grieve our loss and in our own private ways began to analyze the other nominees' positions. It was really in our private personal moments that our attention independently turned towards Obama. I was almost surprised to see how many Gore supporters just naturally came to support Obama. We really weren't gathering here to bash Hillary although at times it was hard to refrain. I am not sure if you are aware that you are doing pretty much everything that you are accusing non-Hillary supporters of. Referring to Obama as a half Black rock star is really low--you don't consider that bashing? Repeated use of this "block" analogy I don't get either. Wasn't Hillary going after the "block" of female voters? It's really not our fault that many women are now turning to Obama instead. Did you see the stats of Super Tuesday? It was something like 14million democrats voted compared to 8million republicans. With numbers like that a Democrat is sure to win. And Arty, Obama's got more votes.
Gallwinds...
I understand in your mind Obama is a Saint, and to tread on that in any way feels bad. I hear so much Hillary trashing from YABU and others and that is Ok with you. If I can't point out something true, about Obama, for fear of being inappropriate, then really, there is no debate.
It was Black Cell that said think Beatles, and he's Black, but you admonish me for using the term, Rock Star. If I point out that Obama has said half-truths, that's not showing the Love. If I point out that African American are voting in a block, then that is not fair. It feels like a double standard because you feel Obama is so wonderful he is beyond any reasonable criticism, and Hillary is just so unlikable it should be obvious to me, that you are all right and I'm wrong.
I still like you though, even though you insinuated that my "picking on Obama" and supporting Hillary at a critical time in the campaign must make me a crazy woman ;-)
Renewal
Gail! I think you're right on with those comments.
It's not easy to work so hard and for so long towards the goal of electing Al Gore President in 2008 and then have to deal with him not running. It was, and is, tough for all of us. I really didn't know who I would vote for if I lived in Iowa. I felt the malaise, even a little numb, not too enthusiastic about any of the candidates.
For me I'll say that I experienced a slow epiphany. It started to happen on the evening I got home from work and watched the results of the Iowa caucuses. The fog started to lift a little. Over the next couple days I took a closer look at this Barack Obama guy and became increasingly more impressed. I felt that we could move forward as Americans after all. In my opinion there really is something special about this man. No, I'm not a follower of the cult of Barack, I'm giving my considered view. He has a rare combination of intelligence, eloquence, and values. You could say that he's blessed with a talent of inspiring people and bringing us together. That is no small thing. Over time Obama will gain more experience. Hillary will never be able to gain charisma. You just have it or you don't.
I was also influenced by endorsements from a few people that I respect and admire. When John Kerry came out early and endorsed Barack Obama, well, that sealed the deal for me.
So, there has been no plot to get Al Gore supporters to all back Obama. That has just happened naturally and organically. The only two Hillary supporters I know of on this board are Arty and P. Edward Murray.
Who is more familiar with disappointment than Al Gore supporters? ;-( I understand that Hillary fans are not feeling good lately. But there's a whole lot worse things to be than a US Senator from New York. Arty, you have as much right to your opinion as anyone else, but if there is near consensus on the part of Al Gore fans to support Obama now, have a little faith in us.
Wayne this race is within 2% and yes Hillary is behind...
In my experience when you are facing a difficult time you work harder. This is a tough race for Hillary no doubt about it.
Seems for some time people have posted every few weeks, and yes I checked in frequently today, as used to be a common occurence and was thus accused of being manic??????? With supporting evidence???? This is still a close race despite that Hillary may lose, be assured I won't lose my miind over this and haven't.
Please don't send the men in the white coats -- OK Obama is a Saint. I have to say, I was offended this time. Much more than anything YABU has ever said, at least his personal attacks make sense. Who wouldn't be offended?
I wonder what Gore thinks? But guess what, don't worry, I'll get over it. Hillary has to endure this kind of thing every day, the least I can do is take these underhanded jabs and come up smiling. Low blows though... REALLY ;-(
Ever since I came back and started posting my unpopular support for Hillary my biggest surprise is no one has started any of your own threads in this categfory. Why Not?

Thanks Wayne
I appreciate it and glad to join in mutual admiration with you.
