Block Voting -- The Bully Factor
We send people to Washington because we want them to evaluate the issues and vote to the best of their abilities and instead are delivered Partisan politics by the two parties. It seems dishonest, or at least is not about honestly evaluating the issues to the best of your ability -- with the information you have to date.
I BELEIVE -- Hillary is someone who makes solid personal choices to deliver change. She's made some mistakes as everyone sometimes does, but has a record of good work. Obama seems unwilling to take a stand -- because he's afraid that doing more than DELIVERING HOPE and UNITING PEOPLE will come back to haunt him. Who has he united? He seems to have united the Black Vote as a block, and I see no evidence of a plan he will deliver better services.
Another block Obama seems to have is people that "don't like Hillary" which seems based on people that don't like powerful woman and "secretly" oppose women's equal rights.
People change. I feel Obama is a good politician and am glad he's encouraged more voter registration and excitement but he doesn't seem to have an guts -- or solid positions on the issues. I'm not confident that he would do more to create Peace, because I have no idea how he would propose to do that. he hope to cross all the traditional RED/BLUE lines -- by doing what? To date it seems that plan is unsure.
If you take positions sometimes you will make mistakes and people will attack you and you have an opportunity to change for the better. Obama suggested early on Single Payer Health insurance then changes for the worse. I look at other forums and way more men are trashing Hillary then women who don't like her. People are defending the politics of words alone as what we really need to Unite us, but Obama has not created any new words of the brilliance of Martin Luther King and John Kennedy -- but borrows their words. In itself there is nothing really wrong with that but what is he really delivering.
My reasons for wanting Hillary are because she has shown solid ability to perform despite obstacles. I am a Peace Advocate, and I trust Hillary more to work for peace. I feel she has the ability to turn around the economy and be a great President. Obama who knows? What I know is he has not united the Democratic party and may in fact pull us right -- I just have no idea what his plans are.
That Hillary is a woman is icing on the cake for me, not the reason I will vote for her. Hillary can win against McCain, despite some steadfast "Hillary Haters", and McCain will shred Obama. I wanted Romney to win the republican primary because he'd an easier challenger for Democrats. Republicans are sneaky, they infiltrate CNN, and all the news media, and I think they are pushing for Obama in part because he is easier for Republicans to trounce.
With all this going on and when I see so many anonymous posts in forums from Hillary Supporters, it makes me wonder, what is going on, and I think in part, once Block Voting starts, Black Voters and White Men, and Young People -- the ones Obama is attracting most -- but certainly not as united as he claims -- are scared to voice their opinions because of the Bully Factor, and I that's sad. Women seem to be voting on all sides. Hillary's Experience and Solid record of delivering change and solutions that she's also a woman -- and can be the first woman President -- That is exciting to me -- Icing on the cake!
One Block voting for Obama -- in numbers large enough to take serious note -- is white men. Why is that? I can understand the overwhelming excitement of Black voters for Obama, but why white men? My guess is those are the white men that are "closet sexists", the ones that do not want the equal rights amendment to pass and if the women's right to vote was on the table, would not pass that either. It's a shame. Winning is the most important thing. These two should team up based on solid performance and plans... instead what I see is Obama hoping his way into office with passive aggressive tactics that will not hold up against McCain.
CLINTON/OBAMA '08
Experience & CHANGE

Be part of the Draft Gore '08 campaign!

The 21st Century
I do sort of feel sympathy for Hillary Clinton supporters who find themselves outnumbered at places like these. But the fact seems to be that Al Gore supporters are strongly tilting towards supporting Barack Obama. I sure am. My reaction to this primary, in all honesty, is only partially rational. There is a part of me that on a gut level, when I see the Clintons, I think, OH NO, NOT THEM AGAIN. I don't want to go through all that crap one more time, I want to turn the page. Instead of going back to the 1990's, I would like to see this country finally go forward and enter the 21st Century.
You Should Feel Sorry For Democrats
Hi Wayne...
This is not the firts time in history many people have followed the wrong person.
Funny -- Not really -- Here's my astrology.com Capricorn horoscope today:
"Be wary of new people, not because they mean you harm, but because they probably aren't exactly as they appear at first glance. You need to be sure that you're able to discern truth from lies."
At the risk of infuriating you Arty ...
I would like to remind you of a post you made the other day when you were perhaps in a more candid state of mind. You said "Finally, to really come clean -- Given the confidence I have in Hillary to bring change and be a great leader, I feel it's time for a woman President. If that offends anyone, ask yourself how many don't like her, because she's a woman? At least I'm being honest about it."
It seems to me that you are try to spin this thing to convince us and maybe yourself that your reasons are different than your extreme desire to see a woman in the White House. This is the very kind of disingenuous gamesmanship that Hillary is playing and the seeds of the distrust that many of us feel about the Clintons.
You say that you feel that Obama does not have a "solid positiion of the issues". Is this because you have not bothered to go to his web site and read his position statements?
Personally I "feel" that whatever Hillary has that Obama lacks is stuff that he can acquire or learn. The stuff that Obama has that Hillary lacks is stuff that she can never obtain.
Speaking as a white male I would rather see the first woman President be seen as having achieved the office clearly on her own merits and not be seen as obtaining it on the coattails of her husband. I am somewhat offended by your stereotyping white males as "closet sexists". I know that I am not and most of the white males that I know who are sexists are not in the closet about it. Most of them are Repugs.
You categorize Obama as "passive aggressive". If you are a male and you are in any kind of competition or battle with a woman, I know from experience, the worst thing you can do is to be seen as overly aggressive. It always works against you in our social paradigm. Yet if you are not aggressive in the political arena, that works against you too. It is the classic double-bind situation.
When and if Obama is up against male opponent the gloves can come off, but not now.
Finally, speaking for myself, enough of the Clintons already! Are these people addicted to the power or what? In a few years Chelsea will be old enough to run and the Bush twins. I think I'm going to be sick.
Peace
MM
MM, You never infuriate me...
I think debate can be healthy -- so long as no one gets offended, or is offensive to eachother, or lie, cheat and steal, etc. -- Golden Rule. The situation is very worrisome to me, but I enjoy mixing it up with you and you have never offended me ;-)
My Choosing Hillary's to Win is based on her Ability to Lead...
MM, My confidence in Hillary is based on her expertise and experience to turn the country around in a positive. way. I would have voted for Gore, and was enthusiastic do do so. I believe, Hllary is the best candidate to lead the USA, and will make more real change happen, and that she can face McCain and win, and Obama will lose that race. That's why I support Hillary. That she is a woman is icing on the cake ;-)
As a Democrat, and a woman I do not feel any pressure, generally to vote for one candidate or the other, I do sense this pressure to follow the crowd, at times here, and when I see the Black Block quoted in some polls, and how white men are voting makes me wonder if people feel pressured to vote for Obama.
At the beginning of this race, I liked Obama better because he's an impressive speaker, but I still had confidence Gore would win. Then I kept hearing the same message from Obama which sounded like rhetoric. When Obama back tracked about single Payer Health Insurance... which I have always supported... I lost confidence that he was a great choice and in the end decided Hillary is a qualified leader who I'm more confident will be a great leader and go head to head with McCain and win.
So if you are suggesting I am willing to change positions -- you are right -- and we agree on that ;-)
Obama is the answer
It is not about race, it is about who these voters feel more comfortable with and connect with to give them a promise for a new direction. Pretty much everyone can agree that George W. Bush has been a dismal failure for America in all aspects of his Presidency. That is why people are so much for change and new direction.
Hillary is part of the old, staunch political machine that would continue the Iraq war and keep big business well funded ahead of the American people. That is what this election is about, the old versus the new.
If people want to continue what Bush has implemented and pressed for will vote for either McCain or Hillary. That is what they should do if they believe that way.
But there are many that appreciate the new vitality and direction that Barack Obama has to offer and that is why they are packing the halls to listen to him speak. It cannot be stopped, people are tired of what has been going on in Washington and with Obama is a hope and inspiration for a new beginning.
John McCain is far too old to lead this country in a direction away from the Bush initiatives, in fact, McCain would be a rubber stamp for everything Bush believes. And Hillary, bless her heart, would be another Bush director with big business seeing the significant profits ahead of the American people. The people are now standing up and 2008 is a pivotal point for America as it is seen throughout the world.
Barack Obama is that visionary that the people are understanding this time around. Wisconsin and Hawaii will support Obama.
It is about a Race
Hey Wanbligi :-)
You are correct this is not about race, it's about the Big Race -- and who can face McCain and win the White house for Democrats and be a world class leader and defender of Democracy. The issue of the Black Voting Block is a major factor in this race -- and a solid block -- per statistics being measured, and calculated, in the race for the Democratic Nomination. I'm not even saying that if I was Black that I would not do the same. I will even go so far as to say, that I would probably be so thrilled, I would jump on board if I was me, and I was Black. It would be hard to resist. That said, if Obama wins the nomination, he may not be the best person to face McCain and win.
People who have "endured me" here for several years now, give or take a few months here and there, know, I am against racism, and am not one to follow a crowd, unless I am a believer in the solution. Maybe you don't agree with my perspective, about Hillary being a stronger candidate to win the Presidency and I respect your opinion ;-)
As for McCain -- all I can say is I was hoping they'd choose Romney. If I was McCain, my strategy would be to break up the Black Voting Block with Rice and talk about Obama winning before the Democratic primary race was over. That's a strategy that will help promote the candidate he feels more comfortable running against.
42% in WI didn't vote for Obama. I'm on that side of this issue. Maybe it's not the popular position and popular positions are not always right. My cousin is a registered Green (votes Independent for Prez) and said last night she has always liked McCain. Her father was a Republican, mine was a Democrat, so she tends to be more open to that choice. I wish I shared your enthusiasm and I would be VERY HAPPY if Hillary had won. Onward we go...
As I said before -- God Willing a Democrat will win!
I have had many moments following reading your posts wondering if I should switch positions on this and still hope the candidates will team up -- because that would make it more likely for Obama to win.
Hillary may not be interested in running as Obama's VP
An Obama/Hillary ticket, would help Obama, but Hillary's chances to run again may be screwed if he loses. It's clear McCain prefers to run against Obama, because he's been "calling" this race for weeks. If Obama runs with Hillary he'll likely blame her if he loses to McCain. So Hillary may not want to take that opportunity even if it's offered, because it may be political suicide for her, since the most important job is the President. If Obama loses she may run again, because Democrats will realize they made a mistake not choosing her in the first place. By then she may be running against a Republican woman.
Maybe the race will be McCain/Rice and Obama/Edwards ??? How's that for strategy? If Bush starts pulling out the troops... Interest rates drop again, support mortgage for closure solutions, better education benefits and talk about Universal Health Care... Republicans will be offering the whole package, including experience.
Don't get me wrong, I want a Democrat to win and Hope Hillary can somehow be the Comeback Kid and win.
Wisconsin and Hawaii will not support Obama?
Why?
My mistake, I typed it wrong I meant will support Obama
My terrible mistake, I typed it wrong on the other post. I meant Wisconsin and Hawaii will support Obama. I cannot believe I did that. Yabu, thanks for pointing that out for me, I made a horrible mistaken typo and please forgive for that.
