Naomi Wolf: Only Safe Thing to Do Is Call on America's DAs to Arrest Bush for Staging a Coup; Gore & Kerry Step Up

Dear Obama Supporters,

Obama would certainly be a big improvement over the GOP. But, please understand that a great ground game worked in 2006 when individual precinct/county machines were "pre-set" by the GOP "servicing" the e-machines with numbers based on late September polling, while then in October, media began their run of Foley stories which changed enough additional voters to overwhelm the "pre-set" numbers allowing Democrats to win again, but importantly, to assume office and to take control of the Senate and House (even though we won by much larger margins. The problem in 2008 is that the GOP knowing how 2006 turned out, expanded the method that "defeated" Kerry and perhaps Gore which was to insert a third, middle man computer/host site between the precinct computers and the line sending results to the country tabulating computers which would result in arrests, if this were a bank. They have now inserted themselves in over a dozen, maybe two dozen states. This means that the ground game can be flipped instantly on election night. And, with media too often "forcing" exit polling to match machine results....you get the picture.

If we fix the above problem with the evidence of hand counted paper ballots, Obama would win as the small total of those who self identify as Republican is now only 27%. But, Bush may not like our recovering our democracy; Bush may declare martial law to prevent elections from occurring, or prevent election protests from occurring when the GOP's 27% wins despite a much larger majority of Democrats, or prevent the counting of paper ballots, if we are able to return to real evidence.

So, as Naomi Wolf says, the only safe thing to do is now ask all DAs to arrest Bush for the crime of staging a coup. And, if this happens now (or impeachment), I would ask us all to correct history and restore our Democracy, by asking Gore and Kerry to finally claim their wins and thankfully assume office.

This would quickly turn everything around. This would be easier than trying to deal with a Bush declaration of martial law with his own "homeland" Brigade whether before, during or after the election. This would be easier than dealing with a third stolen election with a McCain "win" allegedly provided by Mike Connell. (And, Obama has not addressed McCain's Mike Connell for his own sake nor Democracy's.)

Please, we need you too. Your enthusiasm and ground game efforts are fantastic and would under most (but, not current) circumstances win the day. And, we need the Ron Paul voters who are the best on hand counted paper ballots and who understand the dire economic problems. We need fed up and anxious independents. We need the Greens...and Yellows, Blues and Purples. Your worries about the future are justified. And, we will need to work together to make the future better.

If you have a better plan, well, please let's hear it. This is the best I can think of to do. I wish us all luck in recovering our democracy.

Cliff Arnebeck, the Ohio election attorney who issued the subpoena, said Friday that he is aggressively moving to enforce the subpoena. “Mr. Connell has information about how the votes are tabulated in key states in the upcoming election. In order to ensure that the election is fair and accurate, Mr. Connell needs to testify under oath and pursuant to a lawful subpoena about how these votes are tabulated, whether the tabulation will be compromised and whether anyone has directed him to compromise those tabulations.”

Last week, VR interviewed GOP Cyber security expert Stephen Spoonamore about the upcoming election and his testimony in the new Ohio litigation to take depositions of Karl Rove and others.

The video is posted in full below with ten short clips for You Tube viewing. This interview is so important and explosive that we urge everyone to watch it. Spoonamore says that the GOP wanted e-voting to steal elections but now foreign governments will be hacking and the winner will be determined by the best hackers. He says that if the GOP wins the hacking competition, McCain will win 51.2 percent with three electoral votes over Obama, and it will be a stolen election.

Spoon makes valid points about the people who have been implicated in much of the election thefts such as, “they are religious extremists.” He names those who know about stolen elections and he insists that the only way to protect this election is with paper ballots, hand counted.

Interview with Naomi Wolf author of “Give Me Liberty: A Handbook for American Revolutionaries”
At American Freedom Campaign

Author of “The End of America: A Letter of Warning to Young Patriots” forewarning about the 10 steps to Fascism.

I wrote “Give Me Liberty: A Handbook for American Revolutionaries” as a sequel to “The End of America” because when I was traveling around the country warning people of these “10 Steps to Fascism,” these 10 steps to a closed society that I saw always are put in place, when a would-be leader…I beg your pardon, a would-be-dictator wants to crush a democracy or close an open society.
Many people rightly saw that what I was saying was true, they saw the signs all around them. Everything from:
Step 1 hyping an internal and external treat that is terrifying,
Step 2 creating a secret prison system outside rule of law where torture takes place
Step 3 creating a paramilitary force not answerable to the people
Step 4 creating a surveillance apparatus

And, they freaked out, understandably as they should, and they said:
What do we do?
So, I wrote a sequel, which is what do we do. It's like:
First we get terrified; then we get down to work.
And, that’s “Give Me Liberty”.
I looked at times and places where citizens were faced with the closing of an open society and who successfully fought back. Because, we are in an emergency and in a crisis today. And, I want to get back to that today, quickly.

And the second thing I did I looked back on the founders, and I don't just mean the well known white men, property holders, but the whole founding generation, ordinary people many of them not named by history: farmers, artisans, washer women, and enslaved African Americans. All of whom had this vision of liberty, and moved it forward and put their lives on the line to make it real.

And I wanted to go back to what are the core principles that America is suppose to give us. Because, we are being manipulated and brain washed so far away from that with fake democracy, fake patriotism.

The last part of the book is a practical how to: we need a battle plan. A coup has taken place, and people need to know how to fight back.
The worse thing to happen when there is a coup is confusion. And that is what you see in Pakistan. I was in touch with the democracy activists. They were just like lefties here, just like activists here. They were running around infighting, frantic, bad communications. Yet they were able to push back when they finally organized and realized what had happened.
And so Americans are facing a coup as of this morning, as of Oct 1, and confirmed this morning. It’s happened.

And, we have almost no time to push back. We have to understand: it is an emergency.

So, in the last 1/3 of the book, it is a practical how to do everything from:
Become your own media
Write the opeds
Frame the debate
Start your own political movements
Organize democracy commando units to put pressure on your representatives.

Mike: Last we talked things were bad. And, we have seen things getting worse since then, can you summarize the things you find most disturbing.

Naomi: I sure can.
And, I am very sorry to have to be the messenger for this.
But, I am grateful to have your voice and podium because the last time we talked about it, it reached nearly 100,000 people.
And, so people have to listen to this, take it seriously, don’t trust me, don't trust you Mike, back it up, look at the research, and then tell everybody you know. We need action.
We need Millions of People Rising Up.

First, why should you trust me when I tell you how scared I am.
Last fall, you and I talked Mike, I said within six months, according to the blue print which is always predictive, you are going to start to see ...the definition of terrorism expand so that you are going to see headlines where people who look like ordinary Americans are going to be charged as terrorists. I just met (Ian Becon) the brother of Monica (Becon) a middle class white guy from the midwest, clean shaven, well scrubbed
average American Joe, terrified because his sister for protesting has been named as a terrorist and is facing a quarter of a million dollars in legal fees and possibly many years in prison.

I said last fall that you are going to start to see mass arrests within six months. Those mass arrests occurred. They were sweeps of immigrants. They were terrifying. They were processed behind closed doors, behind blacked out windows.

I think that they were practice.

I said you are going to start seeing journalists being arrested. Dozens of journalists were arrested at the RNC including Amy Goodman and Jane Hampshire of Firedoglake. And, we haven't seen a lot of video footage of the RNA because I was chilled to discover that Police exposed the film of protesters, or ruined the recording apparatus of protestors.
And so, we posted some chilling footage on the website for our organization …where you can see the abuse of citizens.
But, the person who got us that footage had to bury it until after he was released from his arrest so he could retrieve it.

This is what happens in the Soviet Union, this is what happens in a closed society.

And, then I said that you are going to start to see it being easier for the president to declare martial law, to declare a state of emergency.
And, I said, and I have been saying for months, leading up to the election, you are going to start to see
Instability
Hyped threats, hyped emergencies, hyped crises.
In order to create an atmosphere of urgency
To Justify a crackdown.

And, I am sorry to tell you, every single one of those things has come true.
And, so I am very sorry to tell you,
But, I feel like, kind of, I don't know, I feel like this is my one chance to alert America.

Because, look at the language Bush is using.

This is not FDR language.
This is the way you whip up agitated markets.
It’s not the way you calm them.
Sara Pelan said 20 times, “We are in crisis mode!”, “We are in crisis mode!”, “We are in crisis mode!”
Rep. Sherman said
That in private conversations,
He didn’t name a subject which makes sense,
It was very brave of him to do this,
he said in private conversations Members have been told
If they didn’t pass the bailout bill, the market was going to go down
A thousand points everyday.
And, by Monday he said they would be facing martial law.
They were threatened with martial law.
He said several members in private conversations were threatened with martial law, if they didn’t do as he said.
Now, why should we take this seriously?
This is my other terrible piece of news, but we have to wake up, we have to wake up.

On October 1,
The Brigade of the Third Infantry Division
Was deployed
In the United States of American for first time since 1807
When a Bright line was placed preventing the military from policing American streets.
A military brigade that’s 3,000-4,000 soldiers has been brought in to police our streets.
Army Times reported it; don’t take my word for it
Now, why is this terrifying?

Three things
What is the definition of a police state?
A police state is when the leader has his own army on the street and his own treasury. Bear with me.

The bailout bill had fine print that gave the president alone a 100 billion dollars in discretionary spending with no oversight.

Who knows what the final bill looks like? We haven't seen the fine print.
But, I am willing to bet you that there is an intervention by the president that gives him more power than he had before in the national economy. You see this always in a police state, the leader intervenes into the national economy and creates a chunk of it that doesn't have adequate oversight or that empowers him further.

The second thing you always see the definition of a police state is troops on the ground in civilian contexts.
Now, why am I terrified by these troops. Why should I not be reassured. Oh, these are our guys. And, it's America.
Here's why:
If you look at the history of closing societies,
what starts to happen, this happened in Italy in 1920, it happened in
Germany in 1933,
what starts to happen, is it will still be a democracy but the president, or the leader, or the furher will start to find a way to deploy military forces at his discretion.
Now these soldiers are not answerable to the Congress of the United States.
They are answerable to the President of the United States. He is the Commander in Chief.
That is the chain of command. That is the chain of command.
So, he can send these troops to your home.
He can send these troops to outside voting booths.
He can send them to protests.
He can send them inside the halls of Congress which is what both Muselini and Hitler did when it was still a Democracy to intimate legislators, as clearly he is starting to intimidate legislat ors.
Bear with me. These troops, their mission according to theArmy Times is
crowd control, subduing unruly individuals and responding in a potential emergency. And, I talked to the brother last night here in Seattle of a soldier who is engaged in training exercises with the First Brigade. So, why is it so terrifying that their mission is crowd control. They are going to use the same technologies of crowd control they used in Iraq according to Army Times.
That includes Tazers and rubber bullets.
Tazers have killed 300 citizens already.
And, rubber bullets are so lethal against citizens, that the United Kingdom has withheld their use because they killed so many people in Ireland.
Now, subduing unruly individuals that means legally that they can define
however they want.
If you are arguing about being purged from voters roles, you are an unruly individual.
If you are protesting another stolen election, you are unruly individual.
But, even more terrifying than that, you know these are our kids. They are.
But first of all, do not be deluded that if someone is of the same nationality as the citizens and soldiers that they will not follow orders.

The Zimbardo’s experiments and history show that soldiers follow orders.
These same kids, these decent young men and women have been sent to Iraq and they have followed orders that have given them nightmares, and post traumatic stress syndrome.
As a matter of policy they have been been charged with torturing.
As a matter of policy they have been charged with intimidating civilians.
As a matter of policy the U.S. military takes hostage wives and husbands of suspected insurgences and holds them and essentially kidnaps them to pressure people to turn themselves in.
As a matter of policy the U.S. military has followed orders to lock up journalists. There are eight journalists in U.S. custody in Iraq.

Now, I am going to close the circle and scare you to death, because I am scared to death. Well, you can say, it's America. It's America. We have civilian law.

The President and his lawyers have successfully established a legal claim for the war on terror that the whole world is a battle field. And so, the whole world you can call someone an enemy combatant, and detain them, disappear them, even torture them.

If the whole world is a battlefield, and there are troops on the ground in American, how is America not a battlefield, legally. If the whole world is a battlefield and there are troops on the ground in American, how does military law not supersede civilian law?

And closing the circle finally, when Brad Sherman says we have been threatened with martial law, before the First Brigade was deployed that would have been an empty threat because National Guard responds to the Governors and we managed to stop Blackwater by enough people screaming and yelling to keep them from being deployed as the President's army.

The President now has an army. The President now has an army.
What is the purpose of having 3,000 to 4,000 soldiers who will to do your bidding or else face serious repercussions, to make good, among other things, to make it serious, to be able to threaten our Congress with martial law if they don't do as he says.

And what I want to tell you, if Congress thinks, if this is true, and if Congress thinks they can stop a threat of martial law by caving, you know, they have to look at history. Because the pattern is once you yield, it is exactly like Mussolini, Mussolini did exactly this in 1920 with Parliament. Once you yield to the first threat, instead of arresting the leader who has staged the coup, you see more and more and more serious incursions.

Mike: You know there was a lot of parallels with the bailout bill that was just passed and the patriot act.

The sense of fear. We have to do something very quickly. The change from the original bill being 4 pages to now close to 500 pages, where you know that our elected representatives did not read that.

Patriot act was rushed through with the same sense of urgency.
They were told they were not patriotic if they did not pass it. I have held the patriot act it weights as much as a newborn baby. It is like 7 pounds. They were given like 6 hours in the middle of the night to read it and pass it.

I think we are going to find that with this bill, as I say if it follows historical pattern, that the president, especially with his personal army now, is in a position that he will be very difficult to be told no to, and that is the definition of a coup.

Mike: It is also interesting that the Army under Rumsfeld had changed its oath recently, so it has a completely new oath that uh
Naomi: The warriors creed, right….is that what you are talking about?
Mike: I believe so and it..
Naomi: The Commander in Chief rather than the constitution...
Mike: The mission, completing the mission is like the top priority.
Naomi: Oh, rather than serving the constitution.
Mike: Yeah, well, it's the first thing mentioned.
Naomi: Yeah.
Mike: So...

Naomi: Wait. But, can we just not stop there.

Naomi: I mean, we have to get out of the habits of thinking in a democracy.
We have to understand, that we're thinking...police state.
October 1st the coup took place.
October 1, 2008 the coup in America took place.
So, we have a small window,
a small window to act.

But we have to realize…
We have to speed up our reflexes because we are in police state time.
We are in Coup Time.
We have to think like Pakistanis.
And, we are in an emergency.
And, one of the things you have to do...

The only safe thing is to arrest the people who have staged the coup.

Now, Congress isn't going to do it: they are intimidated. And, they don't have the powers.

The army can't do it unless they go outside the chain of command.
Although, I am very disturbed that I was also told last night that there is an active discussion on military internet discussion boards about whether or not to obey continuity of government orders. I was told this last night. I haven't checked it out for myself.
But, it's another distressing signal.

We have got to get these people arrested, and investigated. We've got to seize their computers.
We've got to keep them from being able to continue what is clearly...an armed insurrection. I mean, this is the definition of treason. It's an insurrection has taken place. It happens to be the Commander in Chief who has done it. But, an armed insurrection has taken place.

We don't have much time.
So, what Vince Bugliosi has very brilliantly pointed out in his book, “The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder” is that it is legal, although now that military law is United States law, you know,
the reason to act, before we start getting into these kinds of conflicts, where believe me Civilian law doesn't win.

But, as of right now, we are in a position to press our District Attorneys who do have the authority according to Bugliosi to arrest the President.

There is one brave would-be District Attorney who has promised to do that if she is elected. But, we don't have time for that. We have to press our DAs to arrest him now.

Mike: So no promising DAs existing that will stand up to this?
Naomi: We are just sending out the call right now. I mean, Hello, this is news headlines, it's happening in real time. So, I am asking your listeners to forward this video virally and to get these people arrested because they have staged a coup.

It is now legal for the president to direct soldiers to make war against American citizens because 2007 Authorization Act.

They can be prosecuted if they do not follow the law.

I go back to core principles:

1st Principle:
You are not entitled to speak freely; You are obliged to speak freely.
Not entitled, but obliged.
People are feeling fearful.

2nd Principle:
Rebel continually against injustice and oppression.

3rd Principle:
Ordinary people are supposed to run things.

We´ve been told again and again leave it to us - to the politicians and the pundits. The constitutional scholars know ordinary people in America are supposed to be the leaders the agents of change, and right now your country needs you- transpartisan right or left your country needs you to see this coup for what it is.

4th Principle:
Cherish rule of law.
Americans cherish the rule of law- we're not supposed to sit idly by when it is subverted and perverted- Why do people all over the world envy us - its not our standard of living - although that´s
nice, It's how we feel inside because we are so free o we have been because we cherish the rule of law -- judges tend not to be corrupt; the constitution has protected us- that's what people envy- that´s going to disappear unless we rise up against this violation of the rule of law.

5th Principle:
America had no established God.
- this is so important - these people are seizing power in the name of a theocracy- I didn´t used
to think this is true- not that they are driven by faith but they areusing faith as a mobilizing tool- Sarah Palin is going to extend that theocracy - I´ve written a piece about that- The founders wanted to ensure that this was a country of religious freedom -where you were free in your conscience because they had come from places where religious minorities, Christian minorities, were persecuted by the states. America establishes no God .

6th Principle:
We're supposed to deliberate with our neigbours
- we're the ones who are supposed to be having the debates not the right over here and left over there - we are supposed to be face to face with one another-In town meetings, in city meetings, deliberating, setting the agenda ourselves.

7th Principle:
Liberty is universal.
We cannot maintain an oppressive empire and still be Americans -America is supposed to understand that liberty is a universal human right. We are supposed to divest of an oppressive empire - and become a Republic again and truly send out and support liberty abroad rather than subverting democracies and turning a blind eye to them as citizens .

Finally, this new American Revolution
Begins psychologically.
it begins by taking into our hearts that each of us is called upon by

our founders to stand up for freedom.

And the good news- we have to get the word out- is that historically
when millions of people rise up in time but the time it´s past
midnight Now . I used to say it is October of 1931. N o but now I´m
going to say it´s February 1933 and everything closed down for good
in April of 1933 in Germany. There is no more time - so we have to
understand that when millions of people rise up together- oppressors
are bullies and bullies are tyrants and historically what happens is
they flee, they cave and they turn each other in. That´s why you have

This alarmist jive is not an earnest warning. It's pre-propaganda, laying down a terroristic story-line that will be very useful if and when McPalin steals the race, and people (of all colors) dare to protest over it. Obama has not addressed the e-voting, e-counting and e-tabulating machines which remove or hide the evidence of paper ballots (as happened to Gore and Kerry) until a recount is too late to matter (so far). Not addressing the e-machines will cost him the election, and very obviously so, especially when insiders turned brave confessors, republican computer programmers have already come forward ( http://www.bradblog.com/?p=6189#more-6189 ) to say the machines were rigged in 2000 and 2004 for the GOP.

With the machines in place and McCain using the same computer programmer, Michael Connell, who was in charge of the rigged 2000 and 2004 elections for the GOP (and even currently in charge of the computer e-mail firewall for the Democratic House and Senate...why allow that to continue Democrats?), then Obama's silence means he can not possibly win, making this election more theater than a real attempt at winning.

And, if Obama is a follower of Milton Friedman's Economic Shock Doctrine learned while at Chicago School of Economics as described by Naomi Klein, then how much better than McCain will he be is in real question. BushCo is all ready for this move. First of all, Bush now has a free hand to deploy the National Guard of any state and send them anywhere he wants to: a right he got when Congress passed the National Defense Authorization Act in 2006. So be prepared, if/when McPalin steals it, for lots of action that could make the Battle of Seattle look like Woostock.

In addition to Spoonamore's affidavit, Arnebeck has filed with the court an affidavit from Dr. Richard Hayes Phillips, author of the book Witness to a Crime: A Citizens' Audit of an American Election. Dr. Phillips writes: "Having personally examined 126,000 ballots, 127 poll books, and 141 voter signature books from 18 counties in Ohio, and having examined many other election records as well, it is my conclusion that there is so much evidence of ballot alteration, ballot substitution, ballot box stuffing, ballot destruction, vote switching, tabulator rigging, and old-fashioned voter suppression, that the results of the 2004 presidential election, in all likelihood, have been reversed."

Dr. Phillips' affidavit is a must-read [PDF, 6 pages]. He names names and lists a litany of crimes from the 2004 election that strike at the heart of our nation; crimes that have weakened and damn near destroyed our democratic republic.

If these crimes are allowed to be repeated this November -- and we have every reason to believe they *will* be repeated -- we truly believe that "the Great Experiment" that is America will be at an end.

A few choice quotes from Dr. Phillips:

This is a nation that prides itself on the rule of law. One of the reasons for punishment of criminals is its deterrent effect not only upon those convicted of the crimes, but also upon those who might contemplate committing similar crimes in the future. Even if the persons who engaged in criminal activity related to the election of November 2, 2004 are no longer in a position to do so, it is vital that their crimes be investigated and that their guilt or innocence be established. Election fraud undermines the very foundation of the United States of America.

Any time I am asked when would be a good time to hold accountable those who were responsible for rigging a presidential election I will give the same answer: Now is the time. And for every day we have failed to do so: That was the time.

The disclosure from Arnebeck comes on the heels of a dramatic announcement last week, made at a Columbus press conference, announcing Arnebeck's motion to lift a stay on the long-standing King Lincoln Bronzeville v. Blackwell federal lawsuit, challenging voting rights violations in the 2004 Presidential Election in Ohio.

The motion was made following the discovery of new information, including details from a Republican data security expert, leading Arnebeck towards seeking depositions of Rove, Connell, and other GOP operatives believed to have participated in the gaming of election results in 2004. A letter [PDF] was sent to Mukasey at the same time last week, asking him to retain email and other documents from Rove...

"Mr. Rove's e-mails from the White House to the Justice Department, the FBI, the Pentagon, Congress and various federal regulatory agencies are obviously relevant to the factual issues that we intend to address in this case," Arnebeck wrote last week to the Attorney General. "We are concerned about reports that Mr. Rove not only destroyed e-mails, but also took steps to destroy the hard drives from which they had been sent."

In his email to Mukasey today, Arnebeck writes: "We have been confidentially informed by a source we believe to be credible that Karl Rove has threatened Michael Connell, a principal witness we have identified in our King Lincoln case in federal court in Columbus, Ohio, that if he does not agree to 'take the fall' for election fraud in Ohio, his wife Heather will be prosecuted for supposed lobby law violations."

"This appears to be in response to our designation of Rove as the principal perpetrator in the Ohio Corrupt Practices Act/RICO claim with respect to which we issued document hold notices last Thursday to you and to the US Chamber of Commerce Institute for Legal Reform," the Ohio attorney writes, before going on to link to The BRAD BLOG's coverage of his press conference last week and requesting "protection for Mr. Connell and his family from this reported attempt to intimidate a witness."

What is more intrinsically corrupt than allowing people to engage in high-reward/no-risk capitalism -- where they reap tens of millions of dollars and more every year while their reckless gambles are paying off only to then have the Government shift their losses to the citizenry at large once their schemes collapse? We've retroactively created a win-only system where the wealthiest corporations and their shareholders are free to gamble for as long as they win and then force others who have no upside to pay for their losses. Watching Wall St. erupt with an orgy of celebration on Friday after it became clear the Government (i.e., you) would pay for their disaster was literally nauseating, as the very people who wreaked this havoc are now being rewarded.

But what I do know is that an injustice so grave and extreme that it defies words is taking place; that the greatest beneficiaries are those who are most culpable; and that the same hopelessly broken and deeply rotted institutions and elite class that gave rise to all of this (and so much more) are the very ones that are -- yet again -- being blindly entrusted to solve this.

UPDATE: Here is the current draft for the latest plan. It's elegantly simple. The three key provisions: (1) The Treasury Secretary is authorized to buy up to $700 billion of any mortgage-related assets (so he can just transfer that amount to any corporations in exchange for their worthless or severely crippled "assets") [Sec. 6]; (2) The ceiling on the national debt is raised to $11.3 trillion to accommodate this scheme [Sec. 10]; and (3) best of all: "Decisions by the Secretary pursuant to the authority of this Act are non-reviewable and committed to agency discretion, and may not be reviewed by any court of law or any administrative agency" [Sec. 8].

Put another way, this authorizes Hank Paulson to transfer $700 billion of taxpayer money to private industry in his sole discretion, and nobody has the right or ability to review or challenge any decision he makes.

The first and frankly most preferable option is for Congress to immediately begin impeachment proceedings against the members of this latest Business Plot.

No time needs to be wasted on hearings as we already now have in writing, formally as presented to Congress, the intentions of this administration to nullify Congressional powers permanently, to alter Judicial powers permanently, and to openly steal public funds using as blackmail the total collapse of the US economy if these powers are not handed over.

Protecting the public interest in any economic "bailout"

Dear Friend,

The U.S. government has been turned into an engine that accelerates the wealth upwards into the hands of a few. The Wall Street bailout, the Iraq War, military spending, tax cuts to the rich, and a for-profit health care system are all about the acceleration of wealth upwards. And now, the American people are about to pay the price of the collapse of the $513 trillion Ponzi scheme of derivatives. Yes, that’s half a QUADRILLION (MY EMPHASIS) dollars. Our first trillion dollar compression bandage will hardly stem the hemorrhaging of an unsustainable Ponzi scheme built on debt "de-leverages."

Does anyone seriously think that our public and private debts of some $45 trillion will be paid? That the administration's growth of the federal debt from $5.6 trillion to $9.8 trillion while borrowing another trillion dollars from Social Security has nothing to do with this? Does anyone not see that when we spend nearly $16,000 for every family of four in our society for the military each year that we are heading over the cliff?

This is a debt crisis, not a credit crisis. Just as FDR had to save capitalism after Wall Street excesses, we have to re-invigorate our economy with real - not imaginary - growth. It does not address the never-ending war on the middle class.

The same corporate interests that profited from the closing of U.S. factories, the movement of millions of jobs out of America, the off-shoring of profits, the out-sourcing of workers, the crushing of pension funds, the knocking down of wages, the cancellation of health care benefits, the sub-prime lending are now rushing to Washington to get money to protect themselves.

The double standard is stunning: their profits are their profits, but their losses are our losses.

This bailout will not bring real jobs back to America. It will not bring back jobs that make things. It does not rebuild our schools, streets, neighborhoods, parks or bridges. The major product of this financial economy is now debt. Industrial capitalism has been destroyed.
In the next few days I will push for a plan that includes equity for every American in any taxpayer investment in this so-called bail-out plan. Since the bailout will cost each and every American about $2,300, I have proposed the creation of a United States Mutual Trust Fund, which will take control of $700 billion in stock assets, convert those assets to shares, and distribute $2,300 worth of shares to new individual savings accounts in the name of each and every American.

I will also insist that all of the following issues be considered in whatever Congress passes:

1. Reinstatement of the provisions of Glass-Steagall, which forbade speculation
2. Re-regulation of the finance, insurance, and real estate industries
3. Accountability on the part of those who took the companies down:
a) resignations of management
b) givebacks of executive compensation packages
c) limitations on executive compensation
d) admission by CEO's of what went wrong and how, prior to any government bailout
4. Demands for transparencey
a) with respect to analyzing the transactions which took the companies down
b) with respect to Treasury's dealings with the companies pre and post-bailout
5. An equity position for the taxpayers
a) some form of ownership of assets
6. Some credible formula for evaluating the price of the assets that the government is buying.
7. A sunset clause on the legislation
8. Full public disclosure by members of Congress of assets held, with possible conflicts put in blind trust.
9. A ban on political campaign contributions from officers of corporations receiving bailouts
10. A requirement that 2008 cycle candidates return political contributions to officers and representatives of corporations receiving bailouts

And, most importantly, some mechanism for direct assistance to homeowners saddled with unreasonable or unmanageable mortgages, as well as protection for renters who have lived up to their obligation but fall victim to financial tragedy when the property they live in undergoes foreclosure.

These are just some thoughts on the run. You will hear more from me tomorrow.

Battle Plan Actions:

1. Wake up. Resist the temptation to yield to denial. This is exactly as bad as it sounds. Tell everyone you know. Even our representatives do not understand this. I reported the deployment in Baltimore last week -- the head of the city council had heard nothing about it. A citizen told me tonight that when John Kerry was in Massachusetts a few days ago, when told of the First Brigade's deployment, he said he had not heard of it.

2. Groups like the Center for Constitutional Rights, The National Lawyers Guild and the ACLU are our army now. They are our leadership in the legal fight while we fight in the trenches. We need to at least quintuple their budgets IMMEDIATELY. They need to hire enough brigades of lawyers to get us out of prison and to fight these abuses. Fundraisers for them and write them the biggest checks you can NOW.

3. Form yourselves into Democracy Commando teams of twenty to thirty citizens. I give you the technique in Give Me Liberty. You basically register your friends and set out tactically to support your U.S. representative and let the field office know what you have done so that your voice is as powerful as that of the special interests' and lobbyists.

4. Tell your representatives about the deployment. Bombard your city council members, state representatives and Congress people to pass laws immediately to stop their operation on your streets and to disarm the Homeland-Security-corrupted police forces in your town.

5. Call on your U.S. representatives to overturn the Patriot Act and on your state representatives to do the same to any state Patriot Acts. Demand that city council members ban the use of Tasers, rubber bullets and preemptive arrest. Most urgently, demand that they refuse any additional Homeland Security money. Establish and publicize communities that are refusing Homeland Security money. This has to be as firm as sanctions against South Africa. It is entirely tainted, it is blood money and it is being used to wage war against citizens.

6. Fundraise for ads in your local media to alert people to the threat of Homeland Security money and military deployment. Write op-eds for your local media.

7. Prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi (The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder) has written a powerful and carefully argued case for the trial for murder of George Bush. He asserts that any district attorney in the country from whose district a soldier has been killed in Iraq can bring charges. Call your DA and ask that he or she file charges against George Bush for murder. I argue that a coup has taken place, without the headlines. History shows that only prosecution
of such leaders secures society adequately for accountable elections and general stability.

8. Call on Republican voters you know to alert them to the danger. Ask them to bombard their representatives with demands that they form a Patriots' Committee to break ranks with the regime. The Committee must let the attorneys know they will have a bloc of support on the Hill. Ask your Senators and Congressmen to reach out to disaffected CIA State Department and U.S. Military leaders to sign a new Declaration of Independence, a personal commitment to refuse to comply with a rogue government that has deployed U.S. forces at home.

9. Write to military Web sites explaining that troops have been deployed in violation of the principle of posse comitatus -- which has been subverted. Ask family members to request that troops that have been deployed against America lay down their arms and refuse orders. Tell them this is a higher patriotism. Set up a set of funds where citizens -- especially major donors -- of both parties can set up escrow accounts to help military families with the legal prosecutions
and other harassment that will follow.

10. Print out copies of the User's Guide to the Declaration of Independence and the Bill or Rights (see www.myamericaproject.org for the documents) and pass them out to everyone you see. While there, sign up with our new mission to
witness the vote, to raise money for the lawyers, to organize real protest, to fight this war for liberty.

11. Remember that without liberty we are nothing. Remember that the Founders counted on us to act. Remember that courage is called for in times such as these.
