AlGore.org Fund Drive.

AlGore.org Fund Drive.

Is this a registered PAC or non-profit which has tax deductible entitlement?

I'm not against contributions to promote Al Gore, by any means, In my mind, the word contribution denotes tax deductible and rules of engagement of sorts...

... not that I have a problem with people for Al Gore fund raising... I want Al Gore in 'O8 too.

I just would like to be more clear about the AlGore.org Fund Drive, contributions. Where does excess money go? Candidates have to show all that and contributions are tax deductible.

I may donate if I know how the money is being used. The fund drive may get more by discussing more about how the money is spent, and accounted for, and making it feel more interactive, to give money to this effort ... just a thought :-)

Who is we?

I realize this is a pac, etc. Those things that have been explained are well explained, but much is left out. Who decides how money is spent. I realize there are lots of very legit expenses, and you haven't raised enough money yet to matter much re. how it gets spent, but what if a couple of mil came in? Is there a Board of Directors? Checks and balances? Personally, I've given a fair amount to the party - so far that's the only organization I know enough about to trust. I'd very much like to trust this one, but the bottom line is that I will continue to make my gifts to the party until I know a lot more. It even took me a long time to find a place to post this comment/question. The contact us section doesn't seem to have a way (or at least I couldn't find it) to contact you with this kind of questions. I can be a fairly helpful type, but not until I know who I'm helping. I'm looking forward to your response, which I would really appreciate receiving by email rather than trying to find it posted somewhere on the site.
Thanks. Clarence Hansen chansen@austin.rr.com

You will raise more when he declares himself a candidate

I gave you ten bucks just for the heck of it; however, I won't donate any real money until we have an actual candidate.

We are a registered PAC

Hi SolarSuzi:

We are a registered PAC. Our legal and tax status is stated on the online donation form and the printed version we distribute to people who want to donate by mail:

AlGore.org is a grassroots organization. This site and its PAC "The People, Not The Powerful 08" are not affiliated with or authorized by any candidate or candidate's committee. Federal law requires us to use best efforts to collect and report the name, mailing address, occupation and name of employer of individuals whose contributions exceed $200 in an election cycle. Contributions or gifts to The People, Not The Powerful '08 are not tax deductible.

We are a 100% grassroots organization. None of the AlGore.org staff or volunteers receive a salary. All of the donations we receive go directly into the campaign.

There are several links in the donation form to our "How your donation makes a difference" page, which explains our expenses:

http://www.algore.org/donate_to_algore_dot_org

AlGore.org is the creation of a grassroots, all volunteer organization dedicated to electing Al Gore President in 2008. We are in no way affiliated with, endorsed or funded by Al Gore or the Democratic Party. We receive no salaries for our work here. Your generous donations are put directly into the campaign, helping grassroots activists like you.

"We're deploying a completely new Web site to enable true distributed campaigning -- beyond anything that has been done before on the Web by a grassroots organization. Because a draft campaign does not have the resources to open physical offices in the early primary states, we're incorporating most of the functions of a traditional campaign directly into the site... The next generation AlGore.org site includes sophisticated social networking tools that go beyond Meetup.com and will allow us to coordinate thousands of local groups nationwide." -- Dylan Malone, Chair of AlGore.org

Specifically, our major expenses include:

  • The creation of our state-of-the-art campaign website, which provides tools for local groups and individuals to promote Al Gore as a Presidential candidate

  • Advertising (online and traditional)
  • Voter files
  • Conference fees for Progressive and Democratic Party events
  • Campaign literature (printed in union shops on recycled paper)
  • Shipping and mailing costs
  • Legal fees
  • Banking fees

Already your generosity has enabled us to raise and spend over $30,000 in support of grassroots activists just like you. This is your campaign - - please help it keep growing with your contributions, your time, but most of all with your passion to see America elect the best possible President in 2008.

Our Who We Are page in the About section has further information about the campaign.

A good question

Wayne in WA State's picture

This is an excellent question and I think AlGore.org has some answers. This is an all-volunteer effort. No one is taking any salary or compensation. This is a registered non-profit Political Action Committee that is NOT officially endorsed by Al Gore. If you want to see Al Gore in the White House, then I think this is where to put our money where our hope is. I've donated a couple times. If we wait for an announcement to donate, well, that means it's less likely we will ever hear those words. Please donate liberally so that Al Gore will know America needs him. He need not run a long traditional campaign. Gore can announce in the Fall and be the de-facto nominee by February.

Rest assured, don't put your money in a group that will hold it escrow until Gore announces or finally says no. Put your dollars to work where they will achieve results now. Donate with confidence to AlGore.org
