United Nations Global Military Force

I just sent off a letter to Al Gore, and am posting the idea/thought here. I was wondering, in light of the events leading to the Iraq War, whether the United Nations has an actually military force that it can put to use when handling serious issues in the world community. When I say military force, I mean a military force that employs military from all countries. A Global Military Force, if you will, for peacekeeping only. If they don't, I'm wondering whether it might be possible for Al Gore to lobby for this possibility. I was thinking that if the United Nations had a military force to employ supported by all representative countries, that peacekeeping would be an easier issue. The United Nations would have access to a "first only" force that would enter and maintain until issues are resolved...and every country would have had a hand in maintaining world peace. If this hasn't been done, is is a possiblity for Gore to put this forth with the United Nations? Thank you...Rebecca Tacosa Gray
