traffic lights on at night
Posted December 11th, 2007 by metairieclark
why don t we spend some more time on issues here that can save fuel , and hence, better the environment .
every night i sit at red lights and burn tons of fuel when there are no other cars on the road .
if we could get al to campaign here at home for this cause we can save millions of gallons of gasoline every day .
a lot of citys have blinking lights at night , why doesn t someone make the rest of them follow suit?
i alone would save 25 gallons a month , but i drive alot at night . i am sure others would save too . with 250 million americans , if we all save a nickel a day , thats a hell of a lot of gasoline, and pollution as well.
can anyone calculate an estimate of the savings ?

Lights Left on at Night in Buildings
Good point about the lights, now lets go even bigger, have you noticed large corporate offices like banks leave all their office lights on at night?
There should be a law, that for every building and I mean these buildings are 50 floors of lights left on every room, on every floor, that they should be shut down at night.
This would save ions of millions of kilowatt hours !!!
Why are they allowed to do this, and why isn't anyone listening?
Get the big companies, they are the biggest wasters of energy, and pollution.
More practical ideas for home.
I agree that more should be done to raise awareness to practical ways americans can help here at home. I'm not sure about the answers to your question but probably some trafic engineers can figure it out.
There are other things like wind energy. Here in CO the wind energy is not fully subscribed and the capacity is increasing.
I hae my doubts about buying CO2 offsets, unitll they are regulated better, or at least undertood better.
Electric cars would be great if not for the coal used to power them (here in the USA)....
