This leads the new stories for the morning on the msnbc home page!

And the www.DraftGore.com petition has gone nuts:
OVER 154,000 signatures now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the house and the plane

I keep hearing in the news and in person people calling Gore a hypocrite for haveing a house that uses something like 10 times the average amount of electricity for a american home and an inefficiently fueled private jet.
The house one is easy enough to defend He is rich after all naturally he'll have a bigger house, and yes it will use more electricity, but gore pays a premium so that the energy comes from green sources.
the plane one I have a harder time with I don't know a whole lot about this situation and why he would or wouldn't have a different plane or change to a different type of plane.

Does anybody know the real truth about this?

The answer

Actually I just found the answer I was looking for. look under
Gore's work to combat the climate crisis and then follow the forum
Al Gore's Use of Private Jets -- Air planes are necessary to travel overseas
I strongly suggest that Bustyn look into that particular forum
thanks for the complete info available there.
sorry for posting this without exploreing the site fully first.

The real truth?

The real truth is that Al Gore is a hypocrite. You seem to think that because he is wealthy that justifies his consumption of a disproportionate amount of energy. While he tells us little people to be conscientious about the amount of energy we consume, he thinks nothing of it. Do tell us, just what "green source" energy is Mr. Gore utilizing to heat and power his enormous home? How about his plane? Is it solar powered now? Mr. Gore and Ms. Huffington make quite a pair, going around the world in their gas guzzling planes, encouraging the rest of us to use less gas. The epitome of hypocrisy.

Although I must confess, I would prefer Mr. Gore over Mrs. Clinton in the White House. I just don't see how Gore can overcome the Clinton political machine. If he enters the race, the Clinton knives will definitely come out. You can bet they will put one in Al's back. You think the press was tough on the Gore family? Just wait until Hillary puts her bloodhounds on the trail. They'll be feeding the press Al's dirty laundry from here to kingdom come.

It's not a justification so

It's not a justification so much as an acknowledgement of the fact of life that people will rarely be willing to give up the best lifestyle they can afford. It doesn't really make it right but it is human.
As for your next point you seem to be defining it as hypocritical to use fossil fuel energy while telling people to change. That may be the easy conclusion to come to. It is also a problem that many smaller environmental groups can run into. how do you justify printing out flyers to inform people of your event that will focus on stopping climate change when it will use energy( not to mention the paper). But the answer is that this is how you get change to occur. If you don't print off the flyers then people won't know about the problem or the event. So while this act will in a small way contribute to the problem it is the only way to encourage real change in the long run. In the same way flying around to speak to people about glbal warming is not neccessarily hypocrytical becuase it is the way to inform people and galvanize action for the problem. Additionally the whole point of much recent talk on this issue is that while reducing the energy we use(mostly by increasing eficiency of electrical equipment and small conservative steps) is important it alone is not the long term solution by switching to alternative energy the goal is to be able to continue to use energy in current large amounts without the negative effects of a finite source of fuel and climate change created by burning of that fuel.
I must confess I don't know exactly what he uses for the home though I would assume it has something to do with wind or solar power.

As for the plane assumeing the news networks has its story right it one of the most inefficient fueled planes there is however that's all I really know about it.

As for hillary . If the success of this draftgore petition is any indication at all then I think he stands a chance. I'm not sure If he could win in Iowa at this point but in michigan I am furious at the way that the current candidates withdrew from the primary(even hillary who kept her name on the ballot promised not to campaign in michigan). And all over a goofey battle over when the primaries should be and Iowa pressureing the candidates. I have to say that if al gore entered he may not be able to win in Iowa but with his name on the ballot in michigan and other large states would likely draw tremendous support. He is certainly the only candidate I can think of that stands a chance of beating hillary
In any case If gore runs he has my vote. but what we have to do right now is get him to run.

Gore's home

TNblue's picture

Yawn...defending this is getting old. What would you consider an "enormous" home? Maybe....Paris Hilton's 25 thousand square foot home? Let's see, the former Vice President's home is less than half that size. Plus, he has home offices. My home is one fourth the size of his and my electric bill is a lot more than one fourth of his. I know what I'm talking about. I'm from Nashville.

Until there's a better alternative, we all have to get to work. Gore's office is the world. Give him a break. He's trying to change things.

Nice one!

Isn't it invigorating! I hear Olbermann will have Clinton on tonite--supposedly he'll get her to talk about Gore--I gotta watch!
