asking Al Gore to run in 2008!

Posted April 20th, 2007 by Cony37
I am Colombian and I know our lider and president Alvaro Uribe Velez, he is a person born in a family worker, honest, He never has been with people of dark reputation. Al Gore you are very bad informed, and is necessary that you makes an excuse public to our president by your hostile attitude and with all colombian people.if you saw with justice and a transparent soul you don´t be a unjust person.Really you don´t have a good performance.

Be part of the Draft Gore '08 campaign!

And you think we all speak Spanish here or what?
If you want to back up your accusation do it in English, at least.
Anyway, why do you think Gore should meet with Uribe? What would that solve?
Why does this matter at all?
He never has been with people of dark reputation.
Was this a joke?
your response
Dear Yabu,
Your reply was totally uncalled for. Nice way to start the forum. I am Colombian born and voted for Gore as President. There are more than 1.5 million Colombians in the US, the majority of whom think Uribe is doing an amazing job taking Colombia forward. I am personally very disappointed in Gore’s no-show at the Green Forum in Miami, and having spoken to a lot of my Colombian friends, as well as American friends, they all feel the same. Now I am not sure if I would vote for him in 2008 if he were to run.
Best Regards
And how does this answer my question?
You posted an article written in Spanish here to show that Gore somehow was wrong not to appear with Uribe in Miami. What the hell did you expect? Why didn't you post the WaPo article which actually explains in English why Gore refused to meet with Uribe?
What was your point with this particular article? What did you try to prove with it?
What Gore did was absolutely correct, and it's not that he already convicted Uribe for that matter.
"He believes that President Uribe should have every opportunity to address these unsettled allegations in Colombia, but until this very serious chapter in history is brought to a close, Mr. Gore did not feel it was appropriate to appear at the event," said spokeswoman Kalee Kreider.

Irrelevant.
1. Whether Uribe has done a good job as president or not is not the issue here.
But whether he helped right wing terrorists in the past. That's no small deal no matter how you try to minimise it. Would you support any American pol if he was accused of similar crimes?
2.There could be 15 million Colombians in the US Gore would still refuse to met with Uribe today.
If the charges are true Uribe should be punished. Period. Gore gave him the benefit of the doubt but
pretending that everything is OK and Uribe obviously didn't do anything wrong would not only be foolish but immoral under the current circumstances.
You think Gore should just ignore the charges. But why should he? It's not that he is alone:
Allegations of ties between paramilitary groups and Colombia's army prompted Sen. Patrick J. Leahy (D-Vt.), who chairs the Senate Appropriations subcommittee on state, foreign operations and related programs, to withhold $55 million in military aid this week until the State Department explains why it recently certified this country as having made sufficient advances on human rights.

I am personally very disappointed in Gore’s no-show at the Green Forum in Miami,
Why? Why were you disappointed? Why do you think Gore, or anyone for that matter, should have met with Uribe in Miami? What would that have solved? Don't dodge the question.
and having spoken to a lot of my Colombian friends, as well as American friends, they all feel the same.
Thank God Gore is not like them. He wants the facts first, like me. All facts.
Not some "oh he is such an amazing guy he simply couldn't do this" bias.
It's not that Uribe is a saint.
The president also suggested that Colombia's intelligence service is monitoring opposition congressmen who travel to Washington to criticize the government and lobby against the free trade pact. And he acknowledged that as governor of Antioquia he helped pave the way for the creation of a legal vigilante group that, it turned out, was headed by Chepe Barrera, now well known here as a brutal paramilitary commander.

That you would not vote for Gore because of this shows your knee-jerk reaction and lack of reasonable priorities. Frankly, you sound like those Cuban Americans during the Elian bruhaha.
Uribe himself is not that important to being with so whatever Gore thinks about him does not determine whether he should or shouldn't be president of the US. Uribe is the center of the universe, we all know that, but we have bigger fish to fry.
If you happen to like him so much or you think he is so damn significant vote for him in 2008. There is a write-in section on the ballots, ya know. Obviously, in your book while Uribe should get a pass no matter what he did Gore should be judged based on what he thinks about the president of Colombia. That's the biggest problem we have today.
Hello?
Gore has just simplified my choices for the 2008 election
I was trying to make up my mind between three candidates for the 2008 election. Gore has just made my choice so much easier. I will vote for either Hillary or Obama.
Gore mentions ecology is above politics. Some of Uribe's practices are extremely controversial. Part of Uribe's strategy on the war on drugs is to fumigate coca fields using a very controversial poison called glisofato. Several studies show this poison to be extremely harmful to the rainforest. Colombia after Brazil, has the second largest portion of the Amazon. Colombia is also the second most biodiverse country in the world (once again, after Brazil). The biodiversity paradises in Colombia are precisely where much of the coca growing takes place. Al Gore is supposed to defend this. Doesn't Al Gore have a better chance to influence this practice by meeting with Uribe? This was a Green Forum, it is not like he was having a personal meeting with Uribe.
"That you would not vote for Gore because of this shows your knee-jerk reaction and lack of reasonable priorities. Frankly, you sound like those Cuban Americans during the Elian bruhaha."
Unfortunately, most people vote based on emotion, not reasonable priorities. You will never change that. The statement 1.5 million voting Colombians in the USA might be an exageration. But a fact is that the majority of Colombians are in the state of Florida. Didn't Al Gore lose an election in Florida by less than 1000 votes?
Wrong - Al Gore won Florida
