Where is global warming when you need it?

I recently returned from the NJ shore for a needed vacation. To my surprise, the ocean was the coldest there that I can remember, and, I have been going there for most of my life, and I am now 53. The temperature that I recorded using a standard garden variety thermometer was a bone chilling 59 degrees. Man, that is cold for late July!! So cold that a mist hung over the beach until mid noon for the whole week. Oh yes, by the end of the week the temperature was up to a balmy 61 degrees. Try swimming in that for a refreshing dip.

When you need it??
Well there's always that theory that the melting ice will cause key ocean currents to slow or stop, drastically altering climate very quickly all over the planet. Since the waters off the NJ shore are heated by the Gulf Stream, perhaps you were seeing the beginning of the "Day after Tomorrow" scenario.

The water has been cool. I figure if the North Pole is melting, all that cold water has to go somewhere!
