Will anyone here or Algore.org member follow a Gore endorsement?

I won't...it's Gore or nothing for me!

Hmmm...

I think this is a tough one. We don't really want to think about it because it means Gore will not run.

As much as I respect Al Gore, and would listen carefully to hs opinion, if I had a vote, it would be my vote and not Al Gore's vote, and I would decide how to use it. I think thats the way to think about it. But I wouldn't take the Al Gore or nothing attitude personally, I think even if Hillary Clinton got the Democratic nod, my opinion would be to vote for the lesser of two evils, preferring her to anyone the GOP might field.

That's exactly the problem!

The problem is having to vote for "the lesser of the evils"!! We are essentially forced to choose between candidates that are really only marginal at best, and when a REAL candidate steps up, like Gore in 2000, people suddenly can't see what's important, the intelligence, knowledge, and ability to do the job properly!

While many of the current candidates would have previously been perfectly 'acceptable', and I use the term loosely, the game has been forever changed by this administration. The status quo is a shadow of its former self; the stakes much, much higher now!

It is imperative that we hire the absolute best this time. We tried before, in 2000, but even then we didn't realize what we were stepping into, what we lost when Gore 'lost'. This administration has sent us back to the dark ages, and only someone with Mr. Gore's ability can even come close to repairing this disaster.

Sorry, but at this point, I can offer my support to no one except Mr. Gore as the next President of the United States.
No, actually, I'm not sorry!! He's been representing us in the world better as a figurative president than that other guy has for the past 7 years as the official one, and if the fates are cruel and he is not our next President, I will continue to respect him as if he were. He is MY President, if only figuratively! I would look to him for leadership, no matter who is actually living in the White House!

re: It's Gore or nothing for me!

Ditto...

Endorsement

I would take any endorsement by Mr. Gore very seriously. I want the best leadership possible for this country. If Mr. Gore chooses not to run, I will look very seriously at his endorsement as he certainly knows who will follow the closest to his own thinking.

I also believe Mr. Gore would urge us all to do our civic duty and vote.

The lure of rumors

Wayne in WA State's picture

Al Gore could endorse another candidate but I don't think we are going to see that soon, hopefully never.

There's no cause to over-react to Gore's statement that he will "most likely" endorse someone. When he is asked that question what's he going to say? If he says "no" then the interview will turn into badgering him about his political future. If he says "yes" then he is closing the door and he will be pestered about who he is going to endorse. The answer he gave was about the only way to stay on topic.

If Al was sure he was not going to run, we would have known that long ago. If Al is going to run, we probably won't find out until the second half of October, maybe even early November.

Al Gore President 2008

Lure of rumors

I think you are right....

If he had been sure early on, he would probably have made an endorsement or closed the door shut...he might have called Dylan Malone or posted something to us...even on his own website.

He hasn't yet.

it's Gore or nothing for me

And Gore shouldn't endorse anyone.

Endorsements are irrational. Noone should vote for someone just because someone else supports him.
Gore should know this.
And it's not the way it works anyway as the Dean endorsement or Clinton's endorsement of Lieberman proved it recently.

Endorsements

Endorsements are not irrationale or irrelevant. I have deep respect for Vice President Gore and would take seriously his endorsement of someone he thought would best support important strategies for the future of our country and our planet.

If Mr. Gore does not run (and I would respect his decision) I hope he will make an endorsement well before the primary. it would carry great weight.

If he doesn't run, my vote will be going to Barack Obama because I believe he respects the work Mr. Gore has done. I like the way Obama recognizes the work of others. I think he would listen to advice and counsel from Mr. Gore.

Endorphins

Listen. All the Democratic candidates respect Al Gore as they should. I too like Obama, but wake up America, this is the country where George W Bush has been president for the past eight years! Unfortunately there is no way he will be elected, Hilary neither. Get real! Hello Mr. Gore, time to get to work for your country.

Bummer

Yankee Doodle's picture

If Al Gore doesn't run he will be disappointing a lot of Americans. What's the mater with him? Is he lacking the courage? Maybe this story is meant to throw people off. He'll never have an oportunity to run again like he has now.
Bummer.

This has nothing to do with courage

but with logic.

You don't run unless you can be sure you can win. Especially not if you already ran twice.
Running for president itself is good for nothing. The whole thing has a meaning only if you actually become president.

Those who run and have no chance to win are idiots. Yes I'm talking about Biden, Dodd Kucinich et al too.

How does this apply

to people like Jesse Jackson & Al Sharpton who've ran campaigns for the Democrat nomination in the past knowing it was very unlikely they would win it ? As far as I know they were trying to create a platform for specific issues , isn't this potentially a valid reason for running ?

I'm trying to imagine

what a Fred Thompson Presidency would be like , & what this would do for American prestige around the world .

Fred Thompson

Fred knows he has no chance at being President/I don't think he even wants it........what he would like to do is garner enough quick support so that fellow Republicans will give him the VP nod.........

If Vice President Gore doesn't run we have to be prepared to vote for someone who is most likely to implement policies that Mr. Gore has championed and who has a chance of winning. I don't see Hillary or Edwards really supporting important environmental issues (except to say they will to get themselves elected). I don't see either of them giving Mr. Gore the time of day once they are elected.

I see Barack Obama actually embracing sound environmental policies and actually working to support Mr. Gore's positions. I think he would actively seek Mr. Gore's advice and counsel. It just seems like a natural alliance.

Of course the best would be a Gore/Obama ticket.........................
