Gore Ballots Project

in

Hello everyone: I have started a new group called the Gore Ballots Project.

Please visit the link, read about and join the group, and please help gather the information needed to start working towards placing Gore on primary ballots in all 50 states. We need to get started on this right away, in my opinion, if we don't want to scrable to meet deadlines down the road.

Here is a forum topic on this for a more persisitent place for collecting the information. I will keep track of the group and post updates. Please join the group and mention as a response to the forum topic (or in this blog post) if you would like to be a group leader: Gore Ballots Project Group.

From the forum post:

As a first step, we can start collecting information about ballot placement requirements in all the states.

I have called the Board of elections in MA, and found out that:
1. petition for appearing on the Dem. primary needs at least 2500 valid signatures
2. the deadline in MA for filing the petition is Nov. 9th
3. it needs candidate's signature.

So, in the case of MA, if we have a petition with 2500 signatures or more by Nov 1st or so, or well before then, then the moment Al Gore decides to run, the petitions can be forwarded to his campaign to file them.

I have read that California doesn't require candidate's signature. I will try to confirm this as well as find out other details in the next day or two.

I encourage everyone interested to search on the web for information on all the SOS/BOE's, call them and note down the full details of petitioning requirements and deadlines, and then come to this thread to post what you find.

Gore's energy use per square foot is reasonable

Gore's energy use per square foot is reasonable, given their likely greater security needs and also likely continuous need for heating/cooling (as someone is likely home all day), higher energy use in their region (45% higher, quite likely from cold winters and hot/humid summers), and an old house. I have recently read that the house may be 60 to 80 years old, but I am not 100% certain about this. The pictures at this right-wing Pajama's media post Al Gore's Nashville House seem to suggest that the house is quite historic.

More below the fold.

Gore's Company Says He's Not Profiting from 'Carbon Offsets'

(CNSNews.com) - Al Gore is not profiting from his crusade against global warming, a spokesman for an investment firm co-founded by the former vice president said Tuesday.

Gore's London-based employee-owned company, Generation Investment Management (GIM), purchases -- but isn't a provider of -- carbon dioxide (CO2) "offsets," said spokesman Richard Campbell.

...

"That's a serious accusation of illegal activity," Campbell said Tuesday of the profiteering allegations.

"We do not invest in any activity of carbon offset. That's nonsense. We are a fund management business that does sustainability research," he added.

The confusion, Campbell said, arose because GIM pays to offset the energy use of its operations and the personal emissions of its 23 employees, including Gore.

So, the firm will cover the cost to offset the energy use at Gore's home, or his global jet travel, as it would the offset cost of any other employee, Campbell said.

Back to back 2002 speeches by Gore on the Iraq war and the economy, and a great poll on favorables

One-two-punch speeches by Al Gore in September/October of 2002:
1. Former Vice President Al Gore, Iraq and the War on Terrorism, Commonwealth Club of California, San Francisco, California, September 23, 2002
2. Former Vice President Al Gore, Matching our Nation's Economic Course to Our Current Realities, Brookings Institution, Washington, DC, October 2, 2002

A new poll with very good favorables for Gore:
Q12. How favorable an impression do you have of: (Base: Registered Voters/Have Heard of. Base sizes vary)
Al Gore: 60% favorable, 39% unfavorable (net favorables: 21%)

It is great to see, after long last, Gore's favorables at or above 60% and unfavorables below 40%. Some analysis of his numbers in some writings to come.

Gore and 2008 Polls

in

To start with, I want to congratulate and thank the folks at algore.org for putting together a wonderful drupal site for taking the Draft Gore movement to the next level. The site looks fabulous and seems to be equipped with the tools needed for waging a nicely organized draft effort. I will glad to participate and help in the draft efforts.

This post is concerning some recent writings and efforts to have Gore removed from 2008 polls.
