guy follows me into parking lot to yell at me because of Gore bumper sticker:
Tonight I was pulling up to a parking space in front of a grocery store. Evidently some guy saw my Gore bumper sticker and followed me into the lot.
Guy: Are you crazy? I can't believe what you have on your car! That guy Gore is the biggest phony on earth!
And on he yelled, more or less making references about my mental health.
I think I attempted to say something kind about Al Gore, as he peeled off the lot and headed back under whatever rock he crawled out from.
He was about 25 years younger than I am, and I have a handicapped license plate. I wonder what Al Gore signifies to him? Why the rage? I'm still puzzled. How could a simple bumper sticker that says: Gore For President 2008 trigger such anger?
The only thing I regret is that there were not more Gore stickers on my car. The dude probably would
have exploded and vaporized. No more CO2 or methane from him!

That's the problem with America, ignorance in action
I'm so sorry you had to endure such abuse. Legally, what he did was assault you. You could have called the police if you had the chance, time, or courage after being emotionally abused by this assault from an obviously demented man. I laughed so hard when you said you wish you had more bumbers so he would have exploded! I was laughing so hard I cried....I always remember what the British said the day Hitler was reelected...How can 58 million people be so stupid? Your unfortunate incident points out what we are up against.
I mean think about it... we are destroying the planet we live on and people are still in denial and angry when they are confronted with it. The problem is the Conservatives stopped crying about "The liberal Media" and bought it out and now control it. Just look at every conservative who's been around since the Antichrist took office in 1980. From jerry fallwell to Imus and all of them inbetween, there is not one who has lived up to their own talk.
They turned out to be drug addicts or having affairs or on the take or just plain nuts/senile.
That is why what we are doing is so important! WE HAVE TO EDUCATE THE PEOPLE !
The wind always blows, so we never have to have a President who sucks again!
crazy guy
Once, I was going to look for a car, I turned left into the dealership found a parking place and got out of my car.
I don't know why this guy was so mad, but the car following me turned in and the driver came out and started yelling at me. The Toyota folks came out and yelled at the guy to leave the premises.
There are nutty folks all over the place. And a heck of a lot of guns out there too.
Gore stands for real change
and the entrenched beneficiaries of the status quo and Bush's policies understand and hate this change. This guy was probably not one of that crowd, but, as another commenter said, someone who had drunk the KoolAid purveyed by Limbaugh, O'Reilly, and Company on behalf ot big conservative money and oil. (Or he could have been a follower of Lyndon Larouche, who has recently decided to go after Gore for similar reasons but with his own agenda.)
The stronger Gore gets, the more we are likely to see of this. By the time Franklin Delano Roosevelt was elected in 1932, he was so used to the opposition of the angry rich that he could say "I welcome their hatred."
Target Gore:
Those who choose to sling dirt at Al Gore won't have an easy time of it. He is squeaky clean and the most that can be said of him is something about the size of his carbon footprint. The stature of the men running for president from the Dems is clear. Edwards, Obama, and hopefully Al Gore are fine men, all.
Hillary is quite another story. She has baggage. Something about her doesn't set well with me. I guess because she always seems to be angry about something.
To me, Obama seems like a deer caught in the headlights. Good vice-presidential candidate though.
I really like Edwards, but like Al Gore a little more. Gore has his eyes on the horizon; he works today, for tomorrow and the day after.
It is difficult to imagine any of our candidates as president, forced to deal with fanatics who would destroy us any way possible. But Gore has the experience to try for world peace, anyway possible.
Someone once told me that class shouldn't be determined by how much money you have, but by how you treat your fellow human beings. Al Gore is a very classy guy.
When the KoolAid stops
When the KoolAid stops flowing there will be a lot of somber people.
In time reality will set in.
Fun with stickers
I live in ultra conservative, Focus on the Family, millitary swarming, Bush worshipping Colorado Springs hell. I got tired of seeing all of the W stickers and yellow ribbon, war supporting magnets on (literally) every three cars in this otherwise beautiful and scenic town. So, taking matters into my own hands I COVERED the back of my vehicle with various left-wing stickers and proudly flaunt them around town.
The reaction I get from these stickers keeps me entertained during my commute. Sunday drives are a blast. Headshakes are common, stares constant, fingers a norm, and yelling when passing by a rarity (although certainly worth a laugh.) I have never had anyone actually approach me outside of my car, however, to make any comments other than positive ones. I can't wait to add a Gore 2008 sticker to my bumper and see what happens!!
I just thought of an incident my father experienced here about ten years or so ago.
I remember he had a "Celebrate Diversity" sticker on his back window and some jerk smashed the entire thing out. He didn't steal anything, just shattered the glass. People can really be terrible.
Drank the koolaid
I met with cousin I hadn't seen in many years last week. I knew she used to live in Virgina but she told me Cheney then senator was her next door neighbor! I just about choked!! She spewed all of the republican talking points. When I said I was for Gore...she changed the subject and talked about the good things this admin is doing...what??!! I was in shock.
That is the type of guy who you saw. They are the 28% that still love Bush and think he is the best thing since the telephone was invented!!
Bush?
My son is a Houstonian. We knew what a piece of work Bush was before he ever thought of running.
In fact, I don't think even that thought originated with him.
He was transparent way back when. Cheney, Darth Vader, horrible man.
Was he driving a SUV or
Was he driving a SUV or luxury car?
wacko dude's car:
It was a newer silver car, definitely worth a great deal more than my 2001 PT Cruiser with the Al Gore sticker.
My little car has hauled everything from furniture to greyhounds. Intelligent design. ;-)
He was driving a mobile
He was driving a mobile brainwasher
Why the rage?
Indeed, why the rage?
What is so threatening about supporting for President someone with eight years experience in the White House as the Vice-President? What is so threatening about supporting someone who easily won the challenge to be the Presidential Nominee of his party and received more than a half-million more votes from America than anyone else in the 2000 election?
I don't think it's that they are convinced Al Gore is a phony. Like we expect politicians to be honest....must be that old "boring" effect : ) No, I think Al Gore really does represent a threat to many peoples artificial structures of denial. Those things they have been telling themselves over and over to make believe it was OK to support Bush/Cheney and listen to Limbaugh and Hannity would be poised to fall like a house of cards.
Where there's anger and rage -- there is fear
Hit a bump
Sorry you had a bad experience with the sticker. I had the opposite experience yesterday in the parking lot as someone yelled over to me "Like the bumper sticker." We gave each other a thumbs up. Hey, at least it's getting a reaction and making people talk!
Why the Rage
Thank you for reading my blog and replying. I am a huge fan of your part of the world and understand why preserving your precious waters and forests are causes that move your very soul.
I used to spend a lot of time in Oregon up into Washington State and beyond to the San Juans.
Dear friends of mine, Howie and Susan Berta Garrett, head up the Orca Network out of Whidbey and Howie's brother, Ken Balcomb, heads up the Center For Whale Research on San Juan.
When I was stronger, I traveled coast to coast in behalf of getting Lolita out of the Miami Seaquarium and back to Puget Sound.
I visited Howie for a demonstration in Miami, where he was living at the time, and then went on to Friday Harbor to post Lolita signs anyplace that would let me.
Several days were spent out in the Haro Straights with dropped hydrophones and yes, we saw J, K & L pods, a few seals and a dolphin or two. But mostly we heard silence. Orcas were dying off and that silence was louder than the call of the lone bald eagle.
I found the nearest computer, and e-mailed Howie to return home to WA. because what I was witnessing
was a dying environment, a failing ecosystem. At first he didn't believe me, but that didn't last too long.
Since his return, in 1999, they have managed to organize a group of activists, have the resident orcas of Puget Sound declared endangered and kept a close watch on the toxicity levels of the water and marine mammals.
They are with Al Gore, although how much is said might endanger the grants which keep their causes going.
The orcas of Puget Sound are beleaguered by hundreds of whale watching boats every time they enter the straits, Just watching them has helped the tourist trade income soar. This is both good and bad for the whales.
In 1999 I witnessed a pleasure luxury boat full of drunks run down a cow and calf. They survived the incident. But they might not survive PCB s and oil spills.
People here in Missouri don't understand that the juiced up lawn products that wash into our sewers and from our fields into our rivers end up in the Gulf and are swept by the currents up into the Pacific Northwest. In fact,.. what is discarded in Maine can end up on the ocean floors and in the waters down the Atlantic coasts all the way to Canadian and Alaskan waters.
What we discard in one place can endanger the entire world. But here I am, preaching to the choir again. Thanks Wayne and be well.
