Al Gore Electrifies Bali Summit and Says US Obstructing Progress
Al Gore's oratory electrifies Bali summit
Thursday, 13 December , 2007, 20:05
Bali: In a speech likely to go down in history as an oratorical milestone in the fight against global warming, Al Gore, former US vice-president and co-winner of this year's Nobel Peace Prize, electrified the December 3-14 UN conference on climate change on its penultimate evening on Thursday.
Clearly speaking from his heart, Gore exhorted the nearly 11,000 delegates from 187 countries gathered here for the summit to bypass the US government delegation that is threatening to derail the entire Bali roadmap to start global negotiations that will help fight global warming.
Pointing out that climate change was already here, that it was no longer a matter that would affect future generations but was affecting the present one, Gore quoted the famous lines from the Nazi era: "First they came for the Jews and I did not do anything; then they came for the gypsies and I did not do anything; then they came for the neighbours and I did not do anything; when they came for me there was nobody to do anything for me."
Al Gore: I speak to you as a person, a father, a grandfather. I speak to you as someone who for 40 years has tried to understand this crisis and for 30 years, to communicate it-to communicate about it, clearly. I also speak to you as an American. As a citizen of the United States. I'm not an official of the United States and I'm not bound by the diplomatic niceties. (laughter) SO, I am going to speak an Inconvenient Truth. My own country, the United States, is principally responsible for obstructing progress here, in Bali (cheers and applause)-we ALL KNOW THAT. But, my country is not the only one that can take steps to insure we move forward from Bali with progress and hope (applause).
It will be a small group of people that will be the change for all of us.
Al Gore: 'We are seeing the early stages of he first Global PEOPLE Power movement. There will be a mass movement world wide."
I leave you with this video of his inspiring 52 minute speech to the Bali Delegation that Mr. Gore gave today.

I read Gore's mind!
Last night, Leslie (Wolf) Blitzer was touting that Gore was bashing the USA, while oversease, no less! As usual, I started hollering at the teevee, giving Wolfie a piece of my mind and admonishing him for bashing Gore, AGAIN.
But I said to my family last night that the rest of the world needs to show the US that they can do this without the US (not necessarily the little "us" [meaning you and me]), which is what it's going to take for our "leadership" to get a clue. What are we going to do, bomb everybody for not doing things our way?
No, I didn't really read Gore's mind, but was thinking along the same lines, although I didn't even hear the speech (and still haven't yet, so thanks for the link, Linda!).
Wolfie also said that Gore was pushing his movie "again" by using the words "Inconvenient Truth" ~~ of course, without any understanding on his (Wolfie's) part that this is INDEED a very inconvenient truth, to humanity and the planet it lives on.
Thanks, Linda, for the great diary!
Could Blitzer provide any logical argument
while Americans cannot be bashed by another American overseas?
Or does Wolfie prefer not to talk about the truth if it hurts?
Al. Gore is right !
He is right twice, because being honest he might have no chances of running for president in a time when the TRUTH is the biggest enemy of US.
He is also right that under the brilliant leadership of o person brought in power by Evangelical Groups the US lost the chance of changeing its future for better, it remain addicted to oil and oil groups, it become more haithed than ever, and it never was so weak, in spite of all the measures.
It contributed to the Plantet's failure at the ECOLOGIC EXAM - the biggest one in the iystory of the Planet and the most important. A failure grade at this exam means - Humans will be an extincting race - if you do not understand this it makes no sense any other dialogue, it is neccessary to wait and see.
All the presentation is puerille - if the people do not understand tha fact that the PLANET is a THERMAL ENGINE - More Heat means more speed - of change = high winds, high rain, high hots, droughts....1 Katrina = -0.5% Growth Rate; 1 Bush = -2% Growth Rate.
4 Katrina/yar = NO Growth rate - due to cummulative effect of perturbation,
and the probability for nations to make big ellectoral mistakes, being more tempted to plea to conserve the values they have no more...that will mean MORE WAR -
That is the solution = 1 big NUCLEAR WAR, and Global Warming becomes a nuisance !
GO FOR IT ! Avoid the Ecologic Exam ! Do not become smarter, as is hard, learning and addapting is anti-conservative !
The nature will solve the actual humans problem:
After 100 000 years a new generation will rise, that will stil not understand who made the piramits, the Chinese wall, the NORAD, and they will try to use as tumbs, some will find uncorroded pieces of shuttle and will develop stories with extraterestrial life, some unexplained radioactivity, etc. Not too much, because the global warming effect will act ereasing the actual civilization most of the traces...
If you do not like this scenario ? Wake-up and do the right thing, it is late, but it is still time for some action.
NUCLEAR is the solution ! But a peacefull one !
Renewable fuels are like morphine for the last stage of cancer.
Renewables are good when delivered if some backing source exists and are highly poluting - to be useful by themselves alone...
Nuclear is not enough for the mankind to become a galactic civilization - more knowledge is needed. Now the problem formankind is to avoid becoming a Galactic TRASH .
Good luck !
