The 11th Hour (film) - Leonardo DiCaprio
The 11th Hour is a 2007 feature film documentary created, produced and narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio on the state of the natural environment. It was directed by Leila Conners Petersen and Nadia Conners and financed by Adam Lewis, Pierre André Senizergues and Doyle Brunson. Distributed by Warner Independent Pictures. Its world premiere was at the 2007 60th Annual Cannes Film Festival and was released on August 17th, 2007. The movie came about one year after Al Gore's environmental movie-documentary An Inconvenient Truth.
With the contributions of over fifty of the world's most prominent thinkers and activists, including former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, physicist Stephen Hawking, Nobel Prize winner Wangari Maathai, and journalist Paul Hawken, the film documents the grave problems facing the planet's life systems. Global warming, deforestation, mass species extinction, and depletion of the oceans' habitats are all addressed. The film's premise is that the future of humanity is in jeopardy.
The film offers hope and potential solutions to these problems by calling for restorative action by the reshaping and rethinking of global human activity through technology and social responsibility and conservation. Scientists and environmental advocates such as David Orr, David Suzuki, and Gloria Flora paint a portrait for a radically new and different future in which it is not humanity's intent to dominate the planet's life systems, but to mimic and coexist with them.
"Global warming is not only the number one environmental challenge we face today, but one of the most important issues facing all of humanity ... We all have to do our part to raise awareness about global warming and the problems we as a people face in promoting a sustainable environmental future for our planet." - Leonardo DiCaprio.

Al Gore recommends this film
Dear Wayne,
As you know, the Earth is moving closer to several negative "tipping points" that could -- within as little as 10 years -- make it virtually impossible for us to avoid irretrievable damage to the planet's habitability for human civilization. That is one of the reasons why it is urgent we take action as soon as possible.
My friend Leonardo DiCaprio has just produced an amazing documentary on this subject. The film was created using over 150 hours of interviews with some of the brightest minds on the planet, including physicist Stephen Hawking and Nobel Prize winner Wangari Maathai. Moreover, Leo himself is very eloquent and persuasive in this movie. I recommend it highly.
Through interviews and beautiful footage of the environment, The 11th Hour demonstrates how human beings have created the climate crisis and related environmental crises, and shows that we have the means to solve them.
The 11th Hour is both a portrait of a planet and a source of hope and solutions.

I didn't have the means to participate, but I think the word should be spread that people don't need to listen to strangers who have self-proclaimed themselves as the gods and goddesses of fashion. There is no need to buy new clothes for each season. This is a huge unnecessary and horrible waste. If you go to a thrift store such as Value Village, you will find more clothes than you could ever use in a lifetime for a fraction of the cost of new clothes. The rape of the earth for fashion is not acceptable.
IGNORE insignificant people who are scared to death of everything so that they do nothing but judge others, such as Joan Rivers and her daughter whose job it is to criticize what people wear. That's just proof that society needs people like you who know yourself and are comfortable in what you wear without the input of others. Who cares what these two insignificant people think, or anybody else? They don't even know you. You are better than that. You are your own person.
Teenagers need to be prodded to proclaim themselves, not to fall prey to commercialism, mind-washing, and greed.
What is a designer? It is only an artist who is designing what he or she likes, who needs control and wants the egotistical satisfaction and monetary satisfaction of seeing mindless people fall prey and wear their creations. Don't wear THEM. Wear YOURSELF. You do NOT have to wear a brand of jeans or shirt just because everybody else in class is. And you need to let any negative comments roll off. This will empower you. Pretty soon your peers will be confused and will wonder what you know that they don't know but have been searching for, and they will be wearing what you're wearing. Be a leader in recycling.
Recycle clothes. You will look better because you will find wonderful things in thrift stores, old and new, and you can wear your own personality. It's a practice in getting to know and show who you are, and in rejecting the mind-altering corporate greed. Do not be one of million mind-washed people. Feel the freedom. Be yourself. REJECT FASHION AND MAKE YOUR OWN. It will cut back on so much energy. Go on with your BAD SELF, because You rule. Not THEM! Thank you!
