Gore Supporters Form California Draft Gore Committee
Organizers plan to qualify Al Gore for California presidential primary ballot.
SACRAMENTO, CA (MarketWire) August 10, 2007 – Organizers of a new statewide campaign to put Al Gore’s name on the California presidential primary ballot announced today the formation of California Draft Gore, a grassroots political action committee made up of hundreds of Gore volunteers who live throughout the state of California.
The California Election Code requires that in order for a candidate’s name to be placed on the presidential primary ballot, a minimum of 500 signatures of registered Democrats must be obtained from each of the state’s fifty-three congressional districts. California Draft Gore has been created to take on this ambitious project. In order to succeed, California Draft Gore has begun putting in place a field organization of district volunteer leaders and regional and sub-regional coordinators. Each of the district leaders in turn is recruiting and training as many volunteers as possible to begin collecting signatures on October 8. The signature gathering must be completed by December 4, 2007.
“The people are empowered to make a change in democracy,” said Roy Gayhart, the state’s campaign organizer. “A draft effort has not been seen since the 1950s and 1960s with Eisenhower and Goldwater. We believe that if we can successfully organize district-by-district, county-by-county, state-by-state, Al Gore will answer the call and become a candidate for president.”
Although former vice president Al Gore has yet to declare his candidacy in the upcoming presidential election, a recent poll indicates broad national support for him amongst Democrats. The recent national Gallup poll shows Gore in a virtual tie with Barack Obama with 18% support from Democrats. In California, a recent field poll shows him in second place with 25% of likely primary voters supporting Gore, compared to Hillary Clinton at 38%, Obama at 19.8% and John Edwards at 15%. In the San Francisco Bay Area Gore was the number one choice.

Democratic Groups Can Help Draft Al Gore
Valley West Democratic Club Website
This is how this group has chosen to allow its members to choose their own candidates:
Valley West Democratic Club
Two other Democrats are possible additions to this list. They are:
Al Gore: http://www.algore.org/
Wesley Clark: http://www.clark04.com/about/
One correction: The web site for Al Gore is not “official.” Rather, it is a web site organized by enthusiastic Democrats who are trying to persuade Mr. Gore to enter the campaign. This group is looking for volunteers and donors for action this fall. The Wesley Clark web site appears to be the one from his 2004 campaign.
Choose your favorite candidate. Look at his or her web site to find out how you can help (e.g., donate money, hold house parties, show up at events). Our club has a policy of not endorsing candidates before a primary election. We avoid any appearance of favoring one candidate over another. Our members are free to choose their own favorites without the embarrassment of going against the club’s endorsement.
Campaign to put Al Gore on the California Primary Ballot
You neglected to mentioned the activities of and the website for California Draft Gore, which is in the midst of our campaign to put Al Gore on the California Primary Ballot on Feb. 5, 2008, as is more fully described in the blog post to which you have replied. We are a federally registered PAC organized pursuant to IRS Code section 527. We will be circulating OFFICIAL California Nomination Papers in all 53 California Congressional Districts in order to put Al Gore's name on the OFFICIAL California Primary Ballot. California Draft Gore is recruiting volunteers to circulate Nomination Papers between October 8 and December 4 and are raising money through ActBlue.com to support our campaign.

Please inform your membership and readers that California Democrats and now, following our lead, like-minded Democrats in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New Jersey, North Carolina, Michigan, Missouri, and Washington State are not just asking Mr. Gore to announce. We are going to put him on the ballot.

Contact the Democratic Committees
I have sent my local Democratic group a link to this site. I have asked them to tell their members about our plans to DRAFT AL GORE. If we could contact these groups in each area, and ask them to get some signatures, it could help us. Maybe there are members of this site that can blog or comment on other Democratic sites. Anyone who has that capability could help us with this plan. Those of us who go to meetings for other groups with like minded members should go with these forms in hand. It is important for us all to know how to get the signatures. I will read more on your link. Good luck!
Oh yes and try to go to any functions, too
When I called our County chair a couple months ago, she said I was the first of the presidential candidates to contact her. I said "I like how you said that, candidate". :)
They postponed a meet and greet with our state Chair, but hoping it will happen soon that we can attend and I just received a new batch of buttons today! :)
