Michigan's brand-new primary law provides for a January 15 primary. For the petition drive to put Gore on the primary ballot, 12,396 valid signatures of registered Michigan voters are required by 4 p.m. October 23. If in the meanwhile, if the Michigan Democratic Party switches to caucuses, petition circulators and signers will be mobilized for the caucuses.

$2,500 is needed for postage, copying, supplies, and mileage expense of the petition campaign volunteer manager's constant trips throughout lower Michigan. An additional $12,000 would support hiring of full-time petition circulators, who have been essential to the success of past statewide petition campaigns. October 23 is the deadline!

I emailed Michael Moore this morning

His site at http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/latestnews/index.php?id=10270 posted this article so I thought I'd ask for his support in this endeavor:

Group wants Gore on Michigan ballot

By Deb Price / Detroit News

WASHINGTON -- Fans of Al Gore said today they have launched a petition drive to try to get the Democrat's name added to the Jan. 15 presidential primary ballot in Michigan

"We are hopeful that Al Gore will jump in during October, and we simply don't want to take the chance that he will get in and still be unable to be on the Jan. 15 ballot," said Douglas Kelley, co-chair of Michigan Draft Gore.

Gore, the 2000 Democratic presidential nominee and star of the Oscar-winning "An Inconvenient Truth," has repeatedly said he has no plans to run for president. But supporters hope he will change his mind, especially if he wins the Nobel Peace Prize on Oct. 12.

EPIC/MRA pollster Ed Sarpolus said Gore would have a strong shot at winning the Michigan primary if he jumps in. In a statewide poll of likely Democratic voters released by EPIC/MRA on Aug. 14, Gore led with 36 percent, followed by Sen. Hillary Clinton at 32 percent, and Obama at 16 percent. The poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 5 points.

"Gore would be very strong in Michigan, because people know and trust him," Sarpolus said. "And the Democratic males who don't like Hillary Clinton have no problem with Al Gore. You get the good times of Bill Clinton without Hillary's baggage."

For Gore's name to be on the ballot, Michigan Draft Gore would need to deliver 12,396 valid signatures to the Michigan secretary of State by Oct. 23 and Gore would have to submit a candidate affidavit.

Kelley acknowledged that it will be challenging to get that many signatures in just four weeks, despite Gore's popularity in a state he won in the 2000 presidential contest.

Gore ultimately lost the presidential race to George W. Bush after the Supreme Court determined Bush had won the pivotal state of Florida.

Kelley, a John Kerry delegate to the 2004 Democratic National Convention, said 50 volunteers are circulating petitions throughout the state.

"We are confident Al Gore can win in Michigan," Kelley said.

Snatch Victory from Jaws of Disaster

Hillary would be a fine president, but she is the worst candidate as she will rally the right like no other. So, please step aside Hillary and give Al your election money. To top it off, Barack should be Al's running mate!! Now THAT would be a winning ticket!

True Progressive candidate

Who will be the true progressive candidate if the Vice President does not run ???
What is the probability that the Vice President will indeed run after peace
prize announcement on October 12th 2007 ?
