Dramatic hype verbiage should be abandoned...
...and a more professional debate should take center stage instead of what the public has been force fed. I believe Al Gore is sincere. I do not agree with him and I suppose with most that contribute to this blog. My comments are not meant to be disrespectful to Al Gore or anyone else.
I have come to the conclusion after reviewing the scientific evidence that either Al Gore is sincerely deceived or just earnestly ignorant (again – no disrespect intended).
The "evidence" of anthropogenic climate change is less than underwhelming. Any serious and honest scientist would at least speak more from a position that communicates concern that if there hypothesis is correct there could be concerning consequences instead of the dramatic dogma seen on TV. Al Gore appears to be the main contributor to this drama even though he is not a scientist.
For honest and open debate all the hype (and more than questionable conclusions drawn from the anthropogenic climate change proponents) should yield to more sound reasoning over the evidence.
All politics aside… either side can cry politics (by the way… I am an independent) … a starting point for an earnest investigation should be with the dissenting voices against anthropogenic change since all the media and hype you see is about anthropogenic climate change – try starting here… http://epw.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=Minority.Blogs&Content... (this is just the tip of the ice burg – no pun intended)
The issue to be discussed is not that there is climate change… there will always be climate change. History bears out cycles of warming and cooling. The issue falls on the accusation that the change is caused by man. The second debate of course is what data/evidence is valid for the conclusions that are being drawn.
The one thing I do not appreciate is when Al Gore or any proponent of anthropogenic climate change behaves like anyone who does not agree with them must be less than intelligent. A seeker of truth does not seek to demean those who disagree to make it appear that they have a stronger argument. It is human nature to think that a vital component of victory is via the pathway of defeating the opponent by “making myself look better by trying to make the other guy look bad.”
In my opnion, this approach that has been taken by Al Gore and anthropogenic proponents (as is consistantly seen on TV per the news and other) has no place in a serious discussion such as this.
Sincerely,
Dr H

Educated but not educable?
Are you a Dr. of Stupidology? Or are you just another overaffluent elitist who thinks that DR in front of your name makes your opinion more worthy than the worldwide Climate Science community? Want a serious discussion? How long can your grandchildren tread water?
Mike, let's be nice now.

Thank You for your input and comments
Your words are as cold, clear water to a thirsty man drying up in a desert. I welcome your participation in the great democratic tradition. I hope that you will ignore these morons on this site and join the revolt against the tryranny that has taken over this country. I have seen the enemy and he is us. Godspeed.
I'm not a real doctor, but I play one on TV
If a person doesn't want to believe the overwhelming consensus of climate scientists, I guess they don't have to. Meanwhile it is our moral imperative to act now to protect the planet and not dither until the last skeptic is convinced. Isn't this good enough?

I went to that blog link you provided.
I reasearched the poster Marc Morano and this is what I found. I can't believe he works in the US Senate. How can there be any credibility here? Then to top it off, half of these guys are on Exxon's payroll. How do I know. Just go to http://www.google.com. Type in the scientists name +exxon. Viola! I know you can do better than this. Lastly, none of thse guys are climatologists, except for Tim Patterson. And Tim Patterson, is well, Tim Patterson. Google him. Nuff said.
Marc Morano is communications director for the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works. Morano commenced work with the committee under Senator James Inhofe, who was majority chairman of the committee until January 2007. In December 2006 Morano launched a blog on the committee's website that largely promotes the views of climate change sceptics.
Morano is a former journalist with Cybercast News Service (owned by the conservative Media Research Center). CNS and Morano were the first source in May 2004 of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth claims against John Kerry in the 2004 presidential election [1] and in January 2006 of similar smears against Vietnam war veteran John Murtha.
Morano was "previously known as Rush Limbaugh's 'Man in Washington,' as reporter and producer for the Rush Limbaugh Television Show, as well as a former correspondent and producer for American Investigator, the nationally syndicated TV newsmagazine."
Reminds me of what I saw on
Reminds me of what I saw on CNN AKA The Communist News Network yesterday.
JC Watts debunked global warming in one statement. He said that meterologists can't predict the weather for 2 days let alone for several years.
I just wondered how many people are going to take that and run with it.
I hope I don't need to explain the idiocy of his statement. His correlation between weather men and global warming is hysterical. But I guess a lot of people will hear that and shake their head yes.
What can you do?
Global Warming Insanity
Al Gore has single-handedly destroyed a necessary facet of Science: the zealous questioning of scientific hypotheses. Not only does questioning assure accuracy, but it also elevates science itself to a field from which public policy can be based. However, Gore, comedian’s wives, singers, and Leonardo DiCaprio publicly state that the debate is over regarding man-made global warming. As such, we should now make drastic changes that will undoubtedly place an insurmountable economic burden on us all.
Whether or not Global Warming exists, is a problem, and is man-made, should not only be debated, but nothing could be more anti-science than to prevent the questioning of its assertions. Rest assured that whenever you are told that a scientific theory is based on the number of people who agree with its findings, you know you’re being propagandized.
First, let’s examine the data. This entire global warming panic is based on a correlative study, as CO2 goes up or down, so does temperature. (This is the part of Al Gore’s slide show where he says, “Didn’t these [lines] once fit together.”) Well, this doesn’t mean that CO2 causes temperature fluctuations. There could be other variables that cause the temperatures to rise or fall. For example, “swimming pool drowning” and “ice cream sales” are directly correlated; however, this is not because ice cream causes drowning. It is because more people eat ice cream in the summer…More people swim in the summer…More people drown as more people swim.
One thing Al Gore won’t tell you, however, is that an increase in temperature can also cause an increase in CO2. How is this possible?? Well, the oceans give off more CO2 as temperatures rise. Moreover, the oceans give off more CO2 than any human ever could. So what is causing the increase in temperature? Many scientists believe that the Sun’s activity is actually causing an increase in temperature. Wow!! Who would have thought that our Solar system’s greatest source of energy is causing an increase in temperature? Maybe that explains why Mars’ ice caps are melting too.
Furthermore, the Global Warming fanatics are acting like the temperature has never changed on this Earth. Well, we’ve had over five ice ages that came and went without any help from us. There was also the “little ice age” in the middle of the past millennium where people actually ice skated on the River Thames. Then the temperatures rose before the industrial revolution. Imagine that!! In fact, the warm periods before the “Little ice age” were associated with more prosperity because crops could more easily grow. Another added bonus to the Global warming, if it is true, is that CO2 is what makes plants grow (meaning more food to feed the growing population); it is not a pollutant, so this is not surprising at all.
Lastly, whenever you hear someone say the IPCC report states that an overwhelming number of scientists support its findings on man-made Global Warming, let that person know that many of its lead authors don’t agree with its findings and spoke out about the Al Gore’s dishonesty in the Great Global Warming Swindle. The saddest part about this madness is that Al Gore has managed to convince an entire population of people not to question his statements and that there is overwhelming agreement. Nothing could be further from this inconvenient truth.

This is just your opinion only. Solar influence is agreed on by most scientists as having little to do with Global Warming. The evidence of a higher Solar Irradiance just does not match the data.

Thanks for the 'opinion'
Alway nice to hear another right-wing talking head spouting off about things that he knows nothing about and has done no real research on. All of this is coming from someone who doesn't think that Bush is "not conservative enough" if you go to his blogsite and read a little bit. This person truly lives under a rock.
"All that is necessary for evil to triumph, is that good men do nothing."
Regarding the sunspots. The
Regarding the sunspots.
The scientists that DO believe there is a correlation ALSO believe in man's contribution to global warming. They do not believe that the sunspots are responsible for the dramatic increase in temperatures.
I suggest you read what the scientists say about the sunspots and global warming instead of copying and pasting something from a website.
Seriously, do you own research.
"Over the past 20 years, however, the number of sunspots has remained roughly constant, yet the average temperature of the Earth has continued to increase.
This is put down to a human-produced greenhouse effect caused by the combustion of fossil fuels.
This latest analysis shows that the Sun has had a considerable indirect influence on the global climate in the past, causing the Earth to warm or chill, and that mankind is amplifying the Sun's latest attempt to warm the Earth. "

Do your own research
Pardon me please but almost every astronomer is saying the same thing.
Solar effects are irrelevant in this instance.
Making the atmosphere denser is the key idea here.
Temps on Venus are 900 degees F much hotter than Mercury too.
Venus atmosphere is 90 times as dense as ours.
Denser atmosphere= a warmer atmosphere
Less dense atmosphere=a colder atmosphere..ala Mars.
Do your research.
Regarding the Sunspots
There you did it again:(
I told you what was happening but you just went right on your way to deny reality.
We are at Solar Minimum right now.
Less Sunspots, less Solar Flares and Coronal Mass Ejections which are explosions on the Sun that give off more radiation which means more light.
If the Sun is less bright, how can it make a planet warmer?
You need to go back to school.
You lost me when you said
You lost me when you said that CO2 is not a pollutant. You are trying to make the conclusion that plants needs CO2. But you fail to mention that they also need water and cannot withstand excessive tempratures. I don't think you are stupid, I just think you are trying to make false conclusions i order to mislead.
And those that believe in man-made global warming do not dispute the past cycles of warming and ice ages. The problem is that man is contributing to warming at such a rate that we will not be able to adjust. I think that everyone agrees that global warming is natural, the debate is if man is contributing to it excessively.
Many scientists believe that the Sun causes global warming?
Actually, all you have to do is to follow this guy's link and you will find he is another republican:(
Yes, I agree hype should be ignored
Especially from people who can not show any relevant data to support their premise.
The data, Dr H is in and is relevant.
The Greenhouse effect is well known and in fact we have used Greenhouses for years.
Enclose your porch with sliding glass doors and you will find that it is hotter in the summer and is in fact warmer in the winter.
We have a finite amount of atmosphere, most of which is in the lower 3 miles.
Because of the industrial revolution, man has been creating carbon dioxide and pumping it into the atmosphere.
If you want to know what happens when you make an atmosphere denser, just consider our sister planet Venus whose atmopshere is 90 x as dense at the surface and is around 900 degrees Farenheit a temperature that melts lead. Know what it's atmosphere is?
CO2.
Sadly, I must believe that you are in fact not a scientist at all.
I think you are a troll.
As I said, the effect is well known and is used often.
