Why was Gore not on the MoveON list to vote for?

Hi, John, Thanks for your question.

Gore is not a candidate at this time. MoveOn only allowed candidates to be listed on the ballot to be invited to participate and to answer the questions. That is why Gore was not on the list for MoveOn members to vote for Gore to be invited to participate, and why we could not vote for Gore after the Town Halls.

It is frustrating for us as organizers, but Gore if fully occupied with talking to independents, Republicans, non-political folks, Chambers of Commerce, corporation types, etc. about global warming. Those are the people Gore has to win over for him to win big in Nov. 08. Right now all the other Dem candidates for president are not welcome to those crucial groups. So Gore has an open field, and to his credit he is making the best of it to help the environment, and his own chances to win by a large margin in Nov. 08.

Melinn: Long-time politico ginning up excitement for Gore

East Lansing activist Bob Alexander is no stranger to local political endeavors, including tough challenges. He ran Dennis Kuchinich’s presidential campaign in Michigan four years ago. And he himself was the Democrats’ sacrificial lamb to Mike Rogers in the same year’s congressional race.

This time around, the veteran of 200-some campaigns is spending 10 hours of his waking hours co-chairing the Michigan presidential operations for someone who not only isn’t a candidate, but may never be one.

We’re talking about Al Gore, the would-be president from 2000 whose political prominence and Academy Award-winning documentary “An Inconvenient Truth” have made him the world’s leading scold on global warming — and a dream candidate for president to some Democrats, including Alexdander. "
